I washed my truck with a washcloth and a small bucket while I was at a company repair facility & started knocking out the big stuff and then on to the wheels while waiting to get a new driveshaft yoke installed. Honestly I was bored and I hate a dirty truck. The repair guys told me they appreciate someone who takes care of the equipment and proceeded to repair my truck before the others. Coulda been that I had the easiest repair but who knows? It was 80° and sunny and I needed some physical activity anyways, haha

My company stopped paying for outside washes - free at the terminal. But half the time the wash was closed.....

After a while I started paying for a Streaking Beacon....and the reason is, I was living 24/7 in that truck rent free ( wasn't paying for a monthly house note, home time was a a cheap motel in Vegas)....and was actually making very good money--- I wouldn't miss the $$....so once a month I would give it a wash and think, wow....the baby is all clean and it feels good.

Swift was once a decent outfit. Dirty is, as dirty does. Move on. Best of luck wherever you might land!

It helps to keep your equip looking great. My last truck was 10 yrs old and had 1.7 mil on it and looked MANY times better than the other 30 units we had that were mates to it. It's all because of how I took care of it. The inside looked almost be and new, too.

Like , Bakerman said, the customer often judges you by the look of your equipment.

I stayed at a Hampton Inn in Chattanooga just yesterday and they had very limited parking. When I announced to the desk clerk that I was a truck driver and that I had parked my bobtail out of the way in the corner, the owner went out the door and came back in and said "he's fine". I made sure I was parked out of the way, and he said that wasn't the issue... when he saw how clean my truck was he said he knew I wasn't going to trash his room.

People DO judge us... like it or not.

They don't clean them at all.

During pm your lucky if they actually do all required, and definitely don't waste time looking for any issues that would require more action.

You won't believe the number of trucks our team has... That go down within days of aPM.

No incentive for being proactive, it almost seems like an incentive ....

When I first got the truck... It was about the second week on the account and I got back with 3 hours left on my clock.

I had the inside already wiped down and clean and was eager to get the outside done.

My AM put 40 on my comdata and off I went .... Finally after 3 stops I found a truck wash willing to do it for $48.

    Most were charging 56-58.

So, I got the 40 covered, but spent 8.

I got the second one a few months back, never got reimbursement.
Was telling my boss, it time to clean the truck again, but I never got the 40 last time.

He looked into it and came back with the new rule... No More Washing Trucks!!
