That's right. If you're on your 34 break and need to run into town for food or do laundry. This allows you too without interrupting your 34 break. Don't drive too far on it. But that's what its for.

I accidentally drove hundreds of miles on line 5 once when I 1st started practicing e-logs(or as the company called it, training). It all depends on how it is set up. Fleets all have their own parameters for off duty driving, some allow it, some don't. So it depends on how his unit is set...it may be a default setting not to allow off duty driving time. It may need to be reset by a Qualcomm service person.

OFF-DUTY DRIVING is a Option available to drivers and may not be on all Qual-comm's Display Interface. The Safety and Log Compliance Dept should have the answer if it available on the E-Log of the MC-200 or other versions with graphical displays. ( must be empty and not under an order of dispatch )

Since this question is posed here in a Swift thread, company drivers with Swift are not permitted to utilize off duty driving per company policy. That is the reason line 5 will not appear as a duty status option in the hours of service section of the quallcom.

? All owner operator's are prohibited from driving off duty while leased on to the company based on management's policymakers. That could be a problem for some owner drivers leased on to Swift wouldn't it?
