So when the lot lizard leaves do you have to send in a "SCORE" message?

I sent goal msg's when I first started for about a week. Then one day someone replied with "I need more details of your surroundings".

I laughed and have never sent one since.

When its tight of course I still get out and look but sending that msg is ridiculous and proves nothing.

I send it every now and then, and I always get a thanks message back.

But it does serve to distract the driver from concentrating on the work at hand.
That factor alone should be cause to end the practice.

Actually, if you ask your DM or FM or TM, they will all tell you that sending the goal meassage serves as a reminder to the driver to focus on his surroundings and avoid backing accidents. And they will insist they have statistics to prove that it has worked since they implemented it. Right. I'm with the rest of you, it's more of a distraction than anything else and I personally haven't sent a goal message in about a year.

I really wonder if, in an attempt to get into the mind of a driver and in an attempt to reduce accidents, they hired a psychologist, and to justify his exorbitant salary he has come up with these asinine messages that really do no good at all. I'm really curious how many times some moron sent the goal message and then backed into the truck next to him. Seriously, sending a message isn't gonna make you any safer.

I don't know if other terminals do this, I'm sure they probably do, but at my terminal the DMs will have a twice weekly conference call with their drivers to discuss our current safety scores and what we can do to be safe. They also want us to send a daily safety commitment message saying what we can do today to be safe. A big waste of time again. Sending a stupid message will do nothing to keep a driver safe. Safety is up to the driver and where his focus is at at any given moment.

As far as I'm concern, you look at the hole and your surroundings when you are setting up to park, now if is a tight spot to park then you GOAL if nessesary, I agree with blowing the horn, but sending a message ?, I think I did it twice in the last five years, mostly because I didn't get a 'thank you' wth ? LOL
