In my experience, those gauges give you a 'whereabouts' not an exact and a lot of them are different

In the truck I drive I calibrate it by weighing the truck with full tanks and an empty trailer, then I scale it out after I have adjusted the tandems using the gage (our trucks have fixed 5th wheels) and then I just audit from there to make sure it's still accurate. I'm usually able to get it within a hole, if the loads close I always scale
