I agree the risk has gotten greater, but it's the only way to go IMO. I ran E-logs for the first year and a half of my career and it was horrible. I just sat in my truck all the time for no reason. I was frequently tired when I drove and energetic when it said I should be sleeping.

I remember one day I drove for at least 30 minutes in a complete trance on I-80 in Nebraska. When I came to I had no immediate short term memory of how I had gotten there. I pulled over and grabbed a bite to eat and slept for like 18 hours straight. My Hours of service were totally legal they just weren't safe for me. So many times I wanted to take a nap, wait out traffic instead of going through rush hour or get through a city the night before rather than the following morning and the Qualcomm was benevolent, but incredibly dangerous.

I know everyone will say you just need to sleep when your tired no matter what, but for me that means running my 14 hour clock out. Reading books or whatever to pass the time during my 10 and then sleeping for 8-10 hours. I did that sometimes and I ended up taking 18-20 hour breaks for a 14 hour shift. You can't make a living doing that and who wants to just sit in their truck all day anyways.

Even on a 2200 mile cannonball cattle drive I don't get anywhere close to as tired as I used to running my E-logs. If I'm tired I stop and take a nap. If I feel good and safe I run. I don't overload on caffeine. Don't drink energy drinks/shots often. I keep them on hand in case I need them, but I've got a redbull sitting in my overhead compartment that about has all the paint stripped off of it from sitting up there so long rattling around waiting for the day I need it. I don't take those energy/sex pills at the TS counter to stay awake. I try not to drink soda either.

"outlaw" trucking is the only safe efficient way for some of us to truck. I really don't care about being a super trucker outlaw. I drive 65-70mph tops most the time to get better fuel mileage. I'm running a business. Not trying to impress anyone.

so I knew a guy, who knew a guy, who says this guy unloaded in Albany, GA, Monday morning, reloaded in Marietta, GA, Monday around noon, and was standing tall at the highway dept garage in Greenfield Center, NY the next day around noon. Now, I gotta say that 1256 miles in 29 hours has GOT to be illegal.... but this guy says, that this other guy says, that this one guy......

I drove from my house in South Dakota to my house in California in 27 hours. 1687 miles with a one and a half hour nap in there in Nevada. The kicker is that because I did it in my jeep instead of my truck It's completely Legal. Figure that #### out.

I don't know about anyone else but I sure feel safer now days. What with these highly trained drivers that are well rested, driving the safest state of the art trucks with a speed limiter and no chance to cheat on an e-log.
10 hours of rest and relaxation every day. Able and expected to call road service to change out a taillight.
And only having to chain up to "get out of trouble".

Shame on you outlaws with your fancy trucks and your dirty lies. My safety dept say you are problem.
You days are over. You wreck it for rest of us.:D

So safe now, when I see a swift or prime backing in next to me, I just smile and close my blinds because there's no way he's gna hit me.
