One day I got out of my truck an noticed a truck idling and to myself I wondered why.

Then I said ya know self what difference does it make its not my truck or fuel Bill and on top of that it's just none of my f@$#in business.

    Because they can?
    Several good reasons to idle:
    1. Keeping outside noise to a minimum, by not rolling down windows.
    2. Security, not giving thieves a chance to break into truck with windows rolled down.
    3. Keeping out mosquitoes, bugs, wasps, etc., by not having windows rolled down.

To those who idle all night long to sooth them to sleep.
When you are at home to sleep do you idle you lawn tractor out side the window all night or do you just let your weed eater run all night so you can sleep?

Another good set of reasons. But then again, they're not exactly needless. And that's the problem with the OP, idling isn't always needless.

A snoring wife usually fills the void nicely.

I know a driver that yes sometimes when at home and not able to sleep he would go out fire the truck up and go to sleep.
His wife would joke about how he liked sleeping with his Peterbilt more than her.

The sound of the tv puts me to sleep at home. Some of us can't go to sleep in complete silence.

No,.. because at home I do not need to drown out typical truck stop noise from those who have no consideration for people sleeping.

At home I have the soothing warm body of my wife and my soft Egyptian cotton sheets on my pillow top king size bed. Nothing to wake me unless I fart too loudly in my sleep.

This is trucking,. truckers idle,.. get over it.
