And.....You can still do Lifts without unsecuring the front pins..(If everyone followed the zipties would stay in place on all the chassis).....

At Least that's how I remember doing lift Ons and Offs- crane drop the can and slowly back up until can touches front of chassis, Just twist the backs and your done.

Most crane operators are ok with that, some, especially at Landers and Elwood, aren't....kinda luck of the draw...

OH geez..........I want to say $35-40 back then as an owner-op. Employed drivers were either hourly pay or like $15 per crosstown. Do Like 7-9 per day

If you went from lets say Union Pacific -Yardcenter-Dolton.. To The Soo Line in Schiller Park..It paid a lot more

My favorite x-town was UP-Canal street over to NW-Landers or Santa Fe kedzie over to Conrail 47th-63rd- Shorties that paid good.

    RERM Thanks this.

lol , today was our safety meeting (co. has it every quarter).. man.. just unbelivable. pretty much from 10am until 12pm it was a complete demolition by every single person that talked.. (from safety...dispatch...ops...). lets just say, they got in our ### lol thanks to the lazy/crappy drivers. they made it clear that wahtever is being said doesnt apply to those who are doing a good job but MY o MY... in my 5 years here.... never seen such a meeting where they were literally GOING HAM on every single thing drivers are doing wrong here.

To be honest, I'm glad they did. Ever since they hired the new batch of Co Drivers for the Freightliner day cabs, it's been nothing but total stupidity...no zip ties, stolen lights at the yard, bad chassis brought in, crap all over the yard, etc....

A few weeks ago, I get dispatched to bring get a CMA empty from the yard to get loaded...Monday at 8am appt.....get to the yard, and the chassis has a flat,,,dispatch says, check the other 4 CMA empties we have....3 of which had flats + bad lights....fourth had two bad lights... I changed them and took off...wasted 1 hr ....

Getting to the yard at night and finding 40's taking up two spots, bobtail trucks taking up two spots, broken bolt seals on the ground where they can puncture tires and racing around the yard like it's a NASCAR track....#### that did NOT happen last year, but has started happening since January or so....

Getting dispatched on second loads at 11 or 12 pm with no appt.. time only to get to the Consignee and find out it was an 8:00am appt....(guess some driver dropped the ball)....this has all been a recurring theme THIS year and what has changed...a new batch of drivers....

Sounds like the frequent story of mixing company policy with specific DOT requirements, which always leads to confusion. We haul all sorts of containers on chassis. The locks have some sort of mechanism to prevent the lever moving to the unlocked position. Of course some of them are bent or missing, in which case some alternate positive lock(zip tie) would work. But there has to be a positive mechanism to prevent the lock from disengaging. I don't think what that is is specified in the DOT regulation.
If I were the DOT I would be as concerned about the maypop tires and minimum specs on all the Chinese made chassis of the world.

How bout those Chinese chassis with the riveted tail lights? No chance of drivers changing those. Hours wasted waiting for repair service.
