but then again, will you even be hired? if you are hired how many hours are you going to get? (40-50). layoff likely? very likely if freight volume declines, you wont have many, if any people at all below you in seniority.

going to the company that has the highest payrate and the best benefits is nice but they will definitely expect more from you.

Yup, back when the economy tanked and they closed or merged Fedex National they told them guys we have openings out here take it or leave it. They wanted these guys to move to other areas in the US. So they left and came to My company. When things get tight FXF doesn't care about you. If you go on the other forum they are always crying the U word. FXF pays very well one of the top but it's too strict for me. Trust me there's a lot of little games going on there. It might seem like a normal working environment for people that haven't experienced other places. Not saying it's a bad gig but they do run a tight ship. But when you pay .65cpm 100k+ to line guys and 70k+ to city you can kinda do what you want as a company.

I curentlly work for FedEx Express and top drivers there with 30+ years in, are making $30+ an hour. I've been offered a training spot with FedEx Freight before.

additionally i like the option of working a dock shift, most drivers understandably just want to drive but what happens when you cant drive for medical reasons, your bp is too high or you end up with diabetes 10 yrs down the road, or you get a dui (dumb, but still).

YRC does have a school they just open about six months to a year ago in Hammond, Indiana. They are always hiring in Chicago and the money isn't bad. If you have schooling and)or experience, check at Copley (Akron) you and or Richfield (Cleveland). They have been hiring off and on too for P&D and Line Haul drivers.

I'm in NY, Long Island. I'm the new guy, been here 17 months. No future and no pension. I get 19.30 an hr. Don't see me here 17 months from now! Crappy pay, #### equipment, and stupid Union rules are to blame, I'm a hard worker, but when I see the "Lifers" playing games, and whining it bugs me! Rules don't apply to everyone, senior guys get away with murder. No one really cares, what a joke of a company!!
