They're probably switching out their manuals for automatics, which is all too common nowadays.

Yeah. I wouldn't be able to deal with that either. My company just started with those lane sensors. All our trucks have on guard. I was lucky enough to get a '13 that doesn't have the lane sensors. And the onguard doesn't work. And it was an old lease truck so the governor is set higher then other company trucks and the idle cut off has been disengaged. If any one of those features were on my truck, I'd quit immediately. A camera? immediately quit. I wouldn't care if it was a forward facing camera. But there is no reason to see what I am doing while driving. It's essentially self incrimination if you get into an accident and you're eating. Or looking at something other then the road. It's there to get you into big trouble if you don't have both hands on the wheel and are not 100% focused on the road.

That's the point. We as drivers are always doing something in the truck that could be deemed unsafe. Be it putting our feet on the dash, using one hand on the wheel, looking to change the song on our iPod or radio, grabbing for a sandwich in our cooler, filling up a cup of coffee from our thermos, etc. all of these things will now be seen by that camera. And God forbid you get into an accident while doing any one of the number of things that are deemed unsafe by the insurance companies. And now that it's on camera, the company is off the hook and it all goes onto you as the driver. You're going to prison. As stated, it's self incrimination. As I see it, those driver facing cameras are unconstitutional. Phaq those cameras. And Phaq the insurance companies. If there is a socialist agenda in this nation, look at the insurance companies. They are the ones pushing it.

I think you are right where you should be. I have read a series of bad driving habits in your story.
Don't go anywhere else, you won't be trucking much longer anyway.
It's steering wheel holders like you that give the "Drivers" a bad reputation.

What exactly are you referring to with bad driving habits? I hear he keeps it on cruise and when a vehicle gets in front of him, the truck breaks hard due to the on guard. Happens. He said that's was hauling an empty in high winds and it caused him to cross the yellow and into the rumble strips. It happens. Then, lastly, he stated he was eating a sandwich. What's wrong with that? We all eat and drive. If you tell me you don't or never have, I'll call you a liar. The two things I read that could be remotely considered bad driving habits were the neglect of using a turn signal which we all do if there is no traffic around. And a hard brake at a red light. When you're on a state highway going 60 and a light goes yellow on you, sometimes you HAVE to hard brake to stop for it. The yellows don't delay themselves because they sense a truck coming. They're timed for cars that can stop on a dime. You make the commitment to run the red or stop hard. I think you're being a little rough with this driver.

I don't think I am being rough on him. Our standards need to be higher than the industry has.
I always use my turn signal and always have. Traffic or no traffic. It's a good habit.
Sure I eat while I am driving, but not when running on a road with heavy traffic, stop lights, etc. Gotta pick your spots to do such business.
FYI trkrjim, I am not a moron as you suggest. The standards in the industry and in society have fallen to just about 0.
Just because the guy drives doesn't mean he gets a trophy.

    Congrats pal!
Finally smarter drivers are abandoning POS companies like this. If enough do they will either be forced out of business or have to reinvent themselves with the individual driver in mind and watch that pay go up :)
If you have a good record and a Carter Express terminal is near where you live....go sign up...
