That is the company that I have at the top of my list. Since I'm from MA as well, let me know if you decided on Wil-Trans or not.

If you do not have your cdl now you will have to surrender your mass class d and get an Iowa permit. Then you will get your Iowa cdl but have to retake all the tests in MASS. Be careful in doing this. I have opted to bite the bullet and go to a school here.

Wow, well that is certainly a PITA. So, what you're saying is that when and if I get my CDL Class A license here n MA, then I won't have to do the whole switcheroo out in Missouri if I decided to try out Wil-Trans? I'd take Wil-Trans/Jim Palmer over Werner/Schneider (no offense to those who drive at Werner/Schneider mind you :D). I'm just about ready to bite the bullet myself and go to NETTTS over in Pawtucket, RI and just do the 160 hour course. From what I was told, they are flexible so you can do weekends shorter in duration from what I gather, or during the week longer in duration. The longer 540 hour course is too much money, and you are in training forever! And if you do not pass the CDL test the first time (no reason why I wouldn't though) then you can keep practicing until one is ready again to take it again at no extra cost from what I gather. They are having a "Career Day" thing down there this weekend on the 30th at 10:00am. Supposed to be about 15 different companies showing up for presentations, etc, etc. :hello1:

the 540 is overkill to the extreme and required if you get FAFSA and a Stafford loan from the feds.
If you have your permit you can cut it down to 4k and then only have to do 6 weeks yard work.

each time you take the cdl test (there are 6 moves you have to pass if mem serves right) it is 100 for the state trooper to evaluate you. then when you pass and go to the registry you hand them the form the trooper stamped. the trooper fee is 100 each time. you can test 6 times in a year. You test on site at NETTTS.

In regards to career day: you are doing your own career day here on this site. getting info that the recruiters will not tell you. researching places that will fit you best and not getting a sales pitch. Knowledge is power.

Career days are no more than a show and tell.

You can also look at Parker in Avon. if your credit score is over a 600 then you could get a loan from a credit union that they use. their course is 8 weekends and is 5300.

    Good luck!!

    One more thing:

if for some reason you, and I mean a general "you", wash out of the training at a company sponsored school for whatever reason you will get sent home with only a permit for a cdl in that state. You will have surrendered your MA license and will have to go back to the RMV and get it reinstated.

A friend arranged a meeting with a person who oversees commercial licensure in the state. He was emphatic about not surrendering you license for a permit. He said he deals with this on a regular basis and has seen plenty of men and women go to one of the driver mills, get sent home for the smallest thing, and then have to deal with the hassle of reinstating their license. He mentioned Swift as an egregious and repeat offender of this.

The state trooper that was in the meeting as well gave me good info on top of it. She has seen it all and does a lot of testing. She concurred with the registry persons advice.

You are paying the school to teach you to get your license and they are there to help you if you are having a difficult time with a certain maneuver.

For those of you that need to go through the training program to get your CDL (or in my case, upgrade from a B to an A) here are the bullet point of what rhe program offers.

    Jim Palmer CDL Apprentice Program.

·$200/week advance for food while in 3 week cdl training (You pay this back in small $25 week payments once you start earning income with us.)

·No money down or cost with 1 year contract.

·Hands on training with reputable company. (top 10% CSA score for a company our size)

·60 day team driving with trainer after completing 3 week cdl course. (Pay tiers up .12cpm or $600 weekly whichever is greater and then to .14cpm or $700 weekly whichever is greater.) 30,000 miles

·You are paid at the same level as a 2 year experienced driver after graduating to A seat solo driver. .40cpm+fuel incentives
