Six weeks of training went great and my trainer was awesome. I got my truck on Tuesday but I'm home for a few days. KLLM has treated me well from day 1 and I'm really happy with them.

I spoke to a recruiter from kllm and was told in order to be reimbursed for my schooling I have to be haz mat certified.Im planning on starting school soon, really didnt want to get into haz mat deal, but I like everything else Ive heard about kllm.Is there much to getting h.m. certified?
Hey scarecrow are you haz mat cert?

KLLM will reimburse you for the Haz Met certificate. If you are Haz Met, you will keep running all year, even when things slow down. They are really pushing to get more drivers certified.

Big Duker and Milesprower Thank this.

Not hard ,just read the book and take the test. I have my haz-mat, but don't like it . To much risk for 50 dollars more . You have different route's you have to take, and DOT will pull you more offen.

    Milesprower Thanks this.

I did not have my haz mat when I worked at KLLM and it did cost me some delays. There are certain regions that KLLM runs in which they have more haz mat freight than non-hazmat.

When I first started driving virtually every company required HM. Of course this was before the background check and fingerprinting was required. When that law went into effect in '05 (I think), many of those companies that had required HM stopped doing so. I could have grandfathered into the new laws, but instead opted to drop the endorsement. I wish I hadn't done so, but at the time I had only hauled one HM load with PAM and decided it wasn't worth keeping. KLLM would have paid for my getting the endorsement again, and I didn't capitalize on that either.

In short, the more endorsements you have, the more marketable you are.

    Baack Thanks this.

Looks like the school thing may be getting closer. It appears that I'm going to Coastal Trucking School, because it's so close and I can drive everyday. Still looking seriously at KLLM. Coastal says I will have my haz-mat when I finish. Just wondering how KLLM is working out since they went all reefer. Also wanting to know if they are still friendly to a single driver who doesn't want to drive team. I'm interested to know if Ledbetter and Scarecrow are still happy with their jobs there.

I left KLLM a year and a half ago. I can't speak for how they are today. LeannaMarie's husband is still driving for them. As far as I know he's never been approached to drive team.

That's right, they are great to him as a single driver. He gets plenty of miles, always gets home on the day requested, and stays busy. I am happy with the treatment that he has gotten there as a new driver. He thanks me all the time for sending him there because he has friends that aren't happy at their companies at all.

Why did you leave? Your earlier posts had me almost convinced to switch. I am sick of the Yahoo's I am working for now.

As for the $28 per week insurance....Whata' deal... I am currently with Crete, for my wife and daughter I pay $67 per week. My health/life insurance coverage is part of the job, I just have to pay the extra for the family coverage. As for whether or not it's good insurance...For my family, they never give me a problem, they bend over backwards to pay. But... if I go for anything...nothing but hassles. They use BCBS of Nebraska.
