Hello Ladies I have a question. My husband just passed all of his test today and got his DOT Certificate. Now we are just waiting on the background and looking at a start date out of the Hopkinsville Ky DC. Can anyone tell me what the average salary is for a 1st year truck driver?

The first year, my husband made $82K. Also, it needs to be said that all areas are different. For us, we are in one of the lower paying areas.

Spring Valley, Illinois first year was about $92k. Chicago keeps you busy. If he is able to extend every other week (once per pay period), he should be able to do better than $82k. Our ROC tends to bring the driver back to his/her home DC relatively early on day five., unless you are extending.

Also, my husband was told about the 10 percent off card being for certain things. We had heard somewhere that it extended to all items throughout the holidays. Is this still true? Thank you!

The discount card can be used for mostly general merchandise and produce. It expands to cover most items, excluding alcohol or tobacco products, between around Thanksgiving through New Years. Discount card can also be used when shopping online at Walmart. Discount card not valid at Sam's Club as they are a separate division of the company that has their own discount cards.

    noninetofive Thanks this.

Hi ya'll, I have a couple of questions about the application process.

Since July 1st, my hubby has applied at 5 different DC's (we are very willing to move). During the last 2 weeks, 4 of the DC's stopped accepting apps, and his HR Status changed to "application received" at the Grantsville, UT DC (the other 4 still say "under consideration"). But yesterday, 4 of the 5 he applied to, began accepting apps again.

Does this mean he's no longer being considered?

He tried calling 1-800-wal-mart to ask for driver recruiting, but couldn't find an option or a live person. Is there another number to call for an update?

Thank you for any advice/info you can give us.
