You would do orientation in fontana. Yep, fridge in trucks. Trucks will idle when its 70 degrees outside. If its 70 or warmer you can idle all night. As i type this im idyling away and wont be shutting it off anytime soon.

 

Abilene will fly you to their orientation.

 

I'm with interstate in their 11 western reefer department. they are giving a big sign on bonus with different teirs for dry van, reefer, and hazmant. I'm not sure what your pay would start at since you have experience but you get mileage incentives (not fuel incentives) so the more you run, the more bonus you can earn. The min the start getting the bonus is 8k miles/month. You can idle if it's over 70 out. They aren't too picky about it. The 2015+ trucks have apus.

 

I think Pride Transport and Navajo Express both have western regional runs.

Interstate out of fontana. I think they will rent you a car from vegas to fontana. They did with another guy who is from vegas.

Gordon/Heartland has a drop yard in Vegas and once you get a truck they will let you base out of there. The closest terminals to there are Phoenix or Rancho Cucamonga in CA.

I just left Heartland for better pay and work for a small family run company in my area, but they were a good place for me to learn the ropes and I was happy with the people and the company for the most part. I figured they would be phasing out the APU's but I recently saw a new Heartland truck with an APU and was told they will be phasing them in for all trucks. My truck had an APU and they are nice. They don't have a built in fridge but I just bought one of the electric coolers and it worked fine for me. I also had a small TV and a microwave on my truck. With your minimal OTR experience they will probably start you somewhere just short of .40 cents a mile but you should be able to get some good milage based in the southwest. They buy you a bus ticket to orientation or you can drive and be reimbursed for fuel in your car.
