That was amusing in context. When they won the best fleets to drive for a couple of years ago Kanye was on a rant at an awards show when he and others he felt deserved one didn't get some entertainment awards. He was apparently criticizing Bill for getting an award too.

I get what you are saying about percentages. I learned a lot about that from you and others on here over the years. It is really ridiculous people comparing various percentages at differing companies. I can imagine a scenario where an operator with his own dry van at LS doing specialized blanket wrap with lots of logistics bars in tool boxes available to do those kind of direct loads. And also taking advantage of potential haz-mat freight or time critical expedited. If that guy has the connections and reputation at LS his 70% (or whatever it is) is probably significantly more profitable than most any 80 or 90% lease with a "spot carrier" and probably puts to shame most of the "100%" operators too. The whole "my 80% is better than your 65%" is ignorant. So many different variables to consider. A book could be written...
Five years ago I didn't have a clue and fell for the big percentage. I had to pay over $4,000 a year in charge backs to cover cargo and general liability. I never did see any proof of exactly what those costs were. Everyone paid different amounts of chargebacks.
Some people carried their own bobtail/non trucking liability on their truck and trailer but the company also charged them back for that. So paying twice for it. Nice little skim scam. It was pointed out to me that my deductions and charge backs were the lowest in the fleet because I wasn't a willing participant to be skimmed I suppose.
Years ago I didn't know what to look out for in a lease. Now I do. This was a learning experience. And I learned a lot. Not all of it was bad either. I did good for a while. If anything this serves as a cautionary tale for others.spectacle13, spyder7723, SL3406 and 5 others Thank this. -

Here's an example of an actual load from Thursday. Load paid gross 1800. I've actually pulled this load before at 2000. I got into a disagreement about why the price dropped (LJ agent) as the agent denied it had. He said I should feel lucky as he sells it to outside carriers for 1400. After cuts and such, that's about what I make on the deal. So I would be even with the one truck guy bragging about getting 100% and obviously ahead of the 90 percenters. Percentage means squat unless the full context is known, and unless you have an inside guy, that will never be known.Grijon, rollin coal, spyder7723 and 6 others Thank this.
