Old thread I realize but I was just wondering if anyone had any information on this company since the last posting? More specifically, the age old question of cameras in their trucks? And if there is a agility test, like at Schneider/US-X?

No cameras and no agility test. Just your basic DOT physical at a occupational med clinic. 65 mph and all APU fleet

If want to drive meat loads from Texas, Kansas, and Arkansas to the Northeastern states then Helwig is the place to work. Lots of loads to New York, City, Newark, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Houston, Atlanta, and Boston. Helwig will provide its drivers with slow trucks, forced dispatch, e-logs, lots of down time at slaughter houses in Dodge City, KS and Amarillo, TX, low miles, per diem pay, a sorry maintenance schedule for trucks and trailers, an arrogant maintenance supervisor, and a minimum of 4 weeks out with 4 days off per dispatch. Mr. James Helwig does not run his company his "bully" management team does. These "bullies" have NEVER been OTR truck drivers nor have they been truck mechanics. If a driver refuses to take a load for any reason then he/she will be FIRED with no questions asked!

Obviously you speak from your very own personal experience? Slow trucks. Slower than Prime at 58mph? Lol It's really a shame because they were on my short list of companies that appeared to be on the up and up. Remember their slogan, at least the one that's on their website: "Are you a Helwig of a driver?". Testimonials from other drivers on the website that they swear by the company being just wonderful as well as from Mr. Helwig himself. So, it's just surprising to hear that the DM's are bullies? And a and arrogant maintenance supervisor? Shame. Thanks for the info.

Obviously this driving driver likes to lie about companies he knows nothing about. I drive for Helwig and I can tell u it's the best company I have driven for in my 22yrs of driving. They take care if their drivers and if you like to roll then this is the place to be. I average 3100 miles a week. They advertise 2800 to 3000 miles a week and I promise you if you like to roll and keep that left door close, you will get

Also trucks are set at 65mph, electronic logs, all APU units and no truck over 3yrs old and not over 5 yrs old. Great place and great people to work for.. I found my home and will retire with JS Helwig

Are they back to running any west coast? That's a big part of why I went elsewhere. I like where I'm at now but Helwig is more "local" for me living near Dallas and if they would ever open California back up, again I might consider going back.

If you have something bad to say about this company, you are not a good driver. I have been here since February, and this is EASILY the best job I've ever had. Been driving since 2003. They'll buy off days back at $100 a day if you wanna keep running. Tell me another company that will do that? Driver appreciation day and cookout EVERY MONTH. You also get what is darn close to a $1,000 gold ring after a year of service and gems added each year after. Get real, people. If you're a good driver, Helwig, Poly Trucking out of Grand Prairie, TX, and Old Dominion are the best options out there that I know of. I love it here at Helwig though. If you can get the loads delivered on-time, you won't hear from dispatch. Tge worst experience I've had is because some knucklehead decided to break my seal and I had to get the load inspected prior to delivery. Was paid for the miles and extra stop. I sat at the receiver from late monday until early thursday because of an appointment mix up and was paid $400 for sitting there. Averaging right around $1000 a week in my pocket, paid twice a week (or once depending on when you scan in trips), and we use the Cat scale and transflo apps to make life easier. Thermoking APUs, inverters and fridge/freezers are pretty standard fare in all trucks...I've heard a few trucks don't have fridges, but I haven't met a driver without one. I dont see how ANYONE can bad mouth this company. I'm truly happy here, and that's rare for an experienced driver to say. I filled out a short ten minute ap online that asked about driving experience and record then was called a few hours later and sent an application. The next morning I was hired. If you can drive, you need to come to Helwig.

Truth is Helwig could be a great company trouble is they don't want that.
Maintenance Supervisor & and Operations Supervisor decide what will be repaired on your truck....
    Let that sink .....
You as a driver don't control the outcome of what condition of safety your vehicle is in....
Cowboy & Tom were spot on in there assessment..... but Everyone must decide for themselves what's right for them.
