I'd like to know if I'd lose the ability to use the truck gps app if I updated the tablet from extremely outdated Android 4.4.2 to Android 6.0.1? Something about having a version of Android that's 2 major released outdated is concerning, and even a security risk.

Telling the tablet to check for new updates thru the Rand McNally launcher after deleting the Truck GPS app, to fix my 8 invalid files problem, is simply not responding. So not only do I have the invalid files, the launcher won't even check for updates. This really sucks.

If you delete the app wouldn't that render the tablet useless? Or can you reinstall?

Apparently checking for new updates thru the launcher should've discovered the apps missing and forced a reinstall

I love the device but with how much they charge for it, you would think they would release an update. Alicia said nothing confirming one but said there should be one soon. I know when I power it off and on, it tells me to update the maps because they haven't been updated in a year. Heck the tablet has barely been out a year hasn't it?

I have my doubts if the GPS App would work properly if you found a way to update the tablet to the latest version as the app was probably designed to work with the present version.
I had been looking for a rugged Android Tablet and although they are very pricey they were all running an older version of Android with no indication that they would ever be upgraded to the latest version.
I don't think RM intended for these tablets to be used to replace your PC or Cell Phone so if you don't have it connected to Internet 24/7 and have any Apps on it with all your personal information eg: banking or such then security would not be an issue.
I don't know whether RM has any intentions of upgrading any of their tablets to the latest version and I don't know how you would upgrade it as it's usually the manufacture of the tablets that put out the upgrade and with cell phones you need to Root the device to upgrade it if the manufacturer doesn't supply the latest version then you need to find a compatible Rom to side load into the unit.

I don't think rm intended for these tablets to do much else than be an extremely expensive gps with a camera. Slather me all you want with reasons that've been given but I've never seen a gps that's updated less than once a year.

I totally agree with you.I personally run a stand alone gps TND 730,a separate dash cam and if I need to do Elogs would do them on my cell or would get a separate tablet for it. I think RM jumped the gun on the tablets as they need to be more robust and up to date operating systems but would prob cost more if they wanted an all in one system. As they have just come out with a separate dash cam I think they are regretting their jump into the tablet market.Just too many problems and an integrated dash cam is just not user friendly.

The dashcam app in the tablet gps is absolutely horrible. It does about 3 frames per second on a good day, and that's on high quality. Sad. My absolute favorite feature of the GPS is the quad core processor running the GPS application lol. Recalculations are so fast. But... since I followed the instructions i received from mark, they crippled the core use of the tablet and since it wont update, now i don't have a gps at all. I don't depend on it like oxygen but it's a phenomenal tool to have, and without it is really going to suck. Maybe it's time for the garmin?
