this. my "day shift" job started early, worked long hours and left me 0 time during the week. I did only work 4 days and no weekends, but retiring from any kind of ramp delivery is tough. I do night shift Linehaul now. I make more money, work WAY less, have better benefits and genuinely enjoy my job. I don't bake in the sun anymore or freeze in the winter. don't really care if it's raining or not. I have a lot of time at home, just oddball hours. I am not single and I have children. it can work pretty well, just takes planning.
Thinking of leaving Coke Bulk for Linehaul, what do you guys think?

Don't take this the wrong way, but I think you should stick it out for at least 1 year. It wouldn't look good if you started job hopping already. I personally think you were very fortunate to to get a local job with Coke, as your first employment, being a Bulk driver. Pepsi drivers have to work they way up from Bay Delivery drivers to Transport Bulk drivers.
Even if you decided to leave for an LTL gig, the grass may not be greener on the other side, because you'll probably start off On Call Extra Board. OD would probably be your best bet since they seem to start a lot of new drivers straight to linehaul, but like everybody else mentioned, night work isn't for everybody.
Best of luck on your decision.Bob Dobalina, Big Don, MACK E-6 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Like UPS everyone wants to work for UPS Parcel, look it's just hear-say on my end, but I've not known of UPS Parcel to be the nicest most understanding company in the world.
Where I work, were big but it's broken down into divisions and then yards and the drop yard I work at were big for a drop yard, but as far as where I came from were small and if you do your thing, they pretty much leave you alone.Bob Dobalina and Sho Nuff Thank this. -
One thing I learned a long time ago is....if you want to make money, food industry is where it's at. It's a recession proof industry because, let's face it...everybody got to eat. But certain aspects of foodservice is a young man's game. But if you start early, and move up to a less physically demanding position, such as Bulk delivery, it's a job that you can retire with.

No, UPS parcel is NOT understanding. Efficiency is the top concern there, and they demand it.

- Several guys from my barn have moved over to Dominoes Pizza and make OVER 2K PER WEEK.

The "team" part alone is enough to turn me off to that one.

When people look into getting into expedited trucking say it's you and your wife and you are going to be a team and do expedited truck, they always say first you need to spend a weekend at your house in the bathroom together, because that's about the size of an expedited trucks sleeper/cab. Then you decide if you can stand to be in close quarters trapped in that fiber glass plastic box for 10-11 hours a day.Bob Dobalina and Sho Nuff Thank this. -
I never understood how Dominos, Pizza Hut, Little Caesars stay in business. I personally can't stand the taste of their pizza, although Papa Johns is pretty good. My local pizza parlor always tasted better than anything those guys made. And besides, I've seen some of the places those guys have to deliver to. Not something I would personally like to do, but those guys get paid exceptionally well though, as they should be.
Mike2633 Thanks this. -
I'm the opposite. I HATE the local pizza parlors. Theirs is always paper thin and swimming in grease.
