Could anyone who has the time explain to me what a broker load is? And how it differs from the other loads?

    Thanks!

    KD5AXG Thanks this.

I guess I missed that. I saw the vending machine with BH products in them but still too pricey for my budget... lol

Well, I think the APUs are more for AC and not heat.. But the bunk heaters work great... Too hot at times... And when it's very cold just idle the engine. But I have never been cold in my truck... Unless I forgot to turn the bunk heater on before going to sleep... Then, ya, brrrrr

a broker load is one that doesn't originate with one of the shippers or receivers that abilene works directly with. It has been brokered to us by an outside firm. In other words, a shipper needs someone to haul a load. They contact a broker. A carrier is looking for a load, They contact a broker. The broker then puts the carrier and the shipper together (for a fee, of course) and the load gets hauled.

    The
Perfect explanation. The reason why you see complaints about those loads on here is that because you are dealing with a 3rd party you don't always have all the information about the loads which leads to frustration and delays at shippers. The loads are usually very heavy also which is a pain to deal with scaling and whatnot.

Some brokers like to maintain control of the load while its on your truck so you are constantly called by the broker asking for location updates. Others want you to install tracking apps on your phone.

Then there are lumpers you may have to deal with which we don't with regular customers

Basically, a broker load very rarely goes as smoothly as one from a regular customer.

You know, that made me think...

During training we had several brokers calling us... But since going solo, not one broker has called me during the trip... Yes, I call them when I arrive, loaded, and dropped... But beyond that not one single status check call.

And no way is an app going on my phone.

BUT ... If they have your number, they can use a service provided by cellular companies to ping your location anyway... They are "supposed" to get your permission but ya, I bet that doesn't always happen.

    Redtwin and dinosaurjr Thank this.

Well the citizens...sorry....community members should be thankful i got parked here at ruther glen...8 more minutes and i'd be so exhausted i wouldnt be able to hit the brakes

Made it to lebanon over two hours early for my appt (forgot about time zones) however got loaded early and left before my apt time. Sysco in front royal has numerous truck parking spots on site and you can park 24 hrs before and/or after if need be.

So went there 14hours early, got unloaded and make it back to rva with minutes to spare

Today sent to lancaster pa, and almost made it back.
