Hey gang - anyone have recommendations on a good / not over-priced camera system? I would like to install some cameras around the perimeter of my truck and connect them to a monitor mounted to the dash that can help with blind spots. I am aware of the laws regarding "surveillance" and will not be recording anything. This is strictly for added safety while driving.

Anyone have suggested systems that won't cost the same as a mortgage payment?

Can you point to laws regarding surveillance.

    If it didn't record i wouldn't bother.
Might as well record that way if someone hits your truck while your eating dinner then takes off...

Do you have your own truck/trailer where you keep the same trailer most of the time?

I'd like to know that too. I wonder how all those people are able to make big money on youtube with videos they recorded of other people (sound and picture).

I love technology but the idea of staring at a monitor on your dash to see the blind spots scares me.

Don't get blinded to the big picture while looking at your dash.

That said I'm curious what's out there for camera systems.

the surveillance law doesn't get enforced. why? because no one cares to unless it a famous person with money to enforce it. plus added to the fact that cameras on public streets. have nailed countless criminals wanted for crimes in other places.

the possibilities are endless on camera systems. you'll want to look at hd night vision color cameras. the dvrs are cheaper then you think. plus most of them are 12volt systems. they are also designed to hook multiple monitors to them. so you if you want you can buy a ''cheap'' 2 din car stereo and us it for a monitor. or a 15.6'' flip down monitor it is really up to you what you want for a system. you can use a website called lightinthebox.com. they are going to be the cheapest for everything.

I agree eyes on the road at all times is best. I am thinking more about traffic or stop signs. If I am stopped, I would feel much better doing a quick check via the cameras to ensure no one is walking or near the rig. I realize mirrors can achieve the same result but would prefer something more hidden, like cameras.

Before the conversation gets derailed with law discussions, does anyone have a system they might recommend?

Do you have experience with any of these? Any brands better than others?

not really any better. it works out that surveillance system and electronics are made in a few countries. it's more about the tuning then anything. you kind of have to go at it until you find what works and what you like. just sit and read about it. research the products. if your a company driver. you will want to ask safety first. most companies don't care as long as you don't put holes in the truck
