Depends on the circumstances. So you don't think if he gets into a accident clearly his fault they won't turn that info over to authorities? Is that what your saying?

They'll turn it over if they have to but it sure won't help them.
Do you think that if you screw up and kill someone the insurance company won't have to pay if they can prove the driver was at fault? -
Say the camera was facing out like a dash cam. Wouldn't that serve all parties better? -
Forward facing cams can help show if the other driver messed up.

I get it....companies wanna micro manage everyone. And if they can assign blame anywhere but themselves better bet they will and to me, for me, that's all driver cameras are about. -
I don't think it about assigning blame so much as it is about stopping bad habits and increasing safety. It's a training tool and even though a driver facing cam could cost the company and insurance company money when the driver is shown to be careless/reckless they believe that in the long run it will prevent crashed and save lives. They may do a lot of good with driver facing cams but I wouldn't put up with one.

Fact is, driver facing cameras completely change [some who have unsafe habits] driver's behavior. They do wonders to stop texting and surfing while mobile ... Knowing that random observations of random drive times is going to happen. Not a matter of if but when.
You can thank Idiot drivers who came before you [and idiot drivers that are currently in every fleet] for them if you are dealing with them.Pumpkin Oval Head Thanks this. -
Large companies don't want good drivers anymore, they just want cheap morons who are easily controlled.roadranger550 Thanks this. -
Just as many middle and senior drivers texting and otherwise driving stupid as there are junior drivers. Fact is, it's easier to train good driving habits in younger drivers then it is to break bad driving habits in senior drivers.
I'm certainly not an advocate for driver facing cams. But I read the crash forums and see the half dozen rear end, open road crashes by big trucks every week obviously caused by distracted driving. Carriers and insurers have had enough.Last edited: Aug 13, 2016
