Hey gang - I removed my certified clean idle sticker in order to paint the driver's door. My dealer said it would be $100 to get a new one, but that he doesn't think it's necessary as long as I'm not driving through California.

I've been reading up about the stickers but can't find an answer to my question. Can I drive through the other 49 states or into Canada without this sticker? Or do I need it on the truck?

I know it's only $100. But heck if I can put that money towards fuel or something, I'd much rather do that.

Well, if you don't have one, who's going to know if your certified clean idle or if you are a dirty stinking diesel? Lol.

But really, if you stay out of Cali, nobody is going to ask if your clean idle.

if you LOOK at the sticker it is a "CALIFORNIA" certified clean idle.....
they are the only ones that require it....

It is only for California and had no effect on driving in other states. All that sticker is for is to allow you to idle in California.

Some other states, like I just found out in Pennsylvania, also have idle laws, and some recognize the clean idle sticker to exempt you (PA does).

on the backside of that sticker it reads

"DO NOT REMOVE this sticker under penalty of law, severe fines of up to $100,000 and 10 years imprisonment, the US Marshal's take notice"

    you're going to jail!

I believe enforcement is by the same agency that enforces mattress tag removal.
