Frustrating Idle Cutoff

Big bruh it 2016 and I'm in a 2014 intetnational... and I've tried all kind of you tube stuff, but you were the only one to cure these late night sweats. Gods blessings and favor. Thank you, last night slept like a baby. Funny you made the most sense as well, they were talking bout some crazy stuff like release one brake. But skip that glade you are or were a swift driver, still blessings the rooks 4 hrs later. Much Much Luv, and One Luv be blessed!!!!!!!

 

My 2017 freightliner....turn truck off...put a weight on accelerator. ..something that will keep pedal on floor ..start truck...bump idle up to 800rpm...it keeps truck idling forever

As an update based on experiences since I posted the advice given before, my suggestions aren't gonna work on all trucks. And frankly, I'm surprised it worked on your Prostar. I had a 14 Prostar once and it idled without shutting down. Also had a 13 Cascadia with a Cummins that worked different than my earlier suggestion, but I don't remember off hand how it worked. I currently have a 15 Cascadia that was supposed to idle only during certain temperature ranges, but it wouldn't for any reason. Turned out that the outside temp sensor is missing (which is why I don't have a temp reading on my instrument panel) and instead of installing one (I think they couldn't find the wires for it either) they just reprogrammed the truck so it won't shut down. Love that feature.

As I understand it, all the new trucks are supposed to idle only during those temp ranges, so if it's 60 degrees and your truck won't idle, that may be why.

 

Will this work on a 2017

 

I've had some limited success by wedging my tire thumper between the seat and throttle to increase the idle speed. I'm in a '17 Cascadia now, by the way.
Limited because after several hours it will finally shut down.
That can be a small problem when it shuts down while I am asleep, as the key remains in the on position.

My temp sensor seems to be located in the upper left corner of the windshield. It always seems to register warmer than the true outside temperature in these colder places I've been in recently.
The NOAA website reports 16 degrees here, but the sensor says 32.

 

To the mentors/team drivers out there (like the OP)...

Go to your favorite Swift shop and ask nicely. They'll disable the auto shutoff for you. Yeah, Jill will still complain, but so what?

I've heard that some shops will do it for solos, as well.

 

I asked at Edwardsville and they would not do it.

 

Not at swift but same thing in my 2015 cascadia. The temperature sensor is on the bottom of the driver side mirror. I ductape a hand warmer to it and it'll bring the temperature reading up to 95-100. That's past my company's "he'll cook inside there if we don't let him idle it" logic and the truck will stay running until the hand warmer stops.

 

My sensor looks to be in the upper left corner of the windshield. On the inside.
And it always seems to read about 5 degrees above what is the actual temp.

Probably good for the summer time, but not so good this time of year.

 

Are you sure that what you think is the sensor isn't the microphone for the built in bluetooth?
