Ok here is exactly what an 8/2 split does.

You have to take an 8 hour break in sleeper status first for it to work. All it does is freeze your 14 hr clock. Once you complete the 8 hr break it will give back whatever's left of your 14 from the previous shift. All of your drive time left also returns but only up to what's left of your 14. Then once you take an additional 2hr break it will give you back all your hours minus what you used after taking the 8 hr break.

I use it occasionally but don't like it because your basically losing 2 hours from your next days 14 hr clock so you only actually get 12.

Can you drive 5, off duty 2, drive 5, sleep 8, and then keep repeating this? I actually feel like the 8/2 can make your day more efficient since you don't have to take a 30 minute break at any point if you can do it like this.

You don't have to take 8 hr sleeper 1st for it to work. You can take 10 hour break, wake up drive for 4 hours go in sleeper for 4 hours, and drive a bit more and shut down. Take 8 hour break your getting the 4 hours you drove before 4 hour break back plus whatever time left on your 11 when you shut down for The 8.

Ya theoretically you could but good luck getting everyday of your week to work like that lol it's hard enough getting 2 days in row to work like that.

Split sleeper is a good tool once you learn how to use it.

    Drive...6
    Break 2
    Drive 5
    Break 8
    Drive 6
    Break 2
    Drive 5
    Break 8
The 10 hour provision is satisfied without breaking the 11 hour provision, the 30 min break goes bye bye....then recap daily to avoid a 70 hr violation.

You could but your 11 hours would be cut down to 9 hours total in that scenario. Plus you '10' would actually be 12 hours which just killed all the efficiency an 8/2 or 2/8 accomplishes.
