Hell go get another driving job elsewhere if you have to wait that long without hourly detention pay. Many companies are changing to after one hour, your paid detention, that's fine to, but many have that capped at like $140.00 or so. So the lengthy wait time you speak of would be more of a layover pay issue. The only way this would be overcome is if ALL companies started charging wait times to the shipper. You know the old saying, if you don't hit them in the wallet good your not going to get any attention

Tyson is big in the Ozarks. 400 people are easily replaceable come time to do it again somewheres after our economy improves. If it ever.

I just finished reading a market report where grocery prices are falling to where farmers and processors are hurting bad and it's being painted as good for customers. I fail to see the good when I consider how much food increased since 2008.

I don't see any prices dropping..I mean I pull my truck into a Walmart once a week and restock my truck...I'm very detailed...and everything I buy keeps going up from 5 to 30 percent increases!!

Agreed. Bacon is #### near 9 bucks now. I recall a rack of bacon for 5 bucks not long ago. I can still get it for 5 if I want to watch it shrink to a inch frying away in the pan.

Tyson and Perdue are really big around the southern half of DE and northern MD. They have grain feed trucks and chicken haulers running up and down rte 13 littering the road with chicken feathers, traveling from the chicken farms to the plants in Salisbury MD. Around that area is nothing but farmland.

I picked up a couple meat loads when I briefly did OTR. Hauled a couple Monfort Beef loads and a slaughter house up in Wyalusing PA (forgot the name of the place, it was Taylor something). I could never get over the smell at the slaughter house's. Smelled like DEATH and fecal matter everywhere. I don't know how people can work with that smell in the air all the time. I guess they get use to it. Even when you washed out the trailers, you could never really get rid of that rotting meat smell.

Turkey. 500 or fewer birds in cages on a flatbed. Say 4 or 5 stacked high, 5 across and a cage every 2 feet of deck to the bulkhead forward.

I recall that land, I remember it well. We also hauled blue crab from the bay side out of there too. But If I remember right the bay turned bad and killed off so much.

Yep..you nailed it on the chicken haulers. I got stuck behind them a couple times and it literally covered my windshield with chicken feathers.

It's kind of sad to watch them chickens huddled up in a ball while their feathers are being blown away. Not a big animal rights activist (although Tyson have been in violation of inhumane treatment in their farms in the past in DE), but I guess it needs to done if people want chicken on their plates for dinner.

Yea I always thought about 40 dollars a cage rather than the feathers. I should have felt as you did.

Anyhow.. I made the mistake of entering a Farmland up near the badlands, I cannot tell you or remember where the #### thing is to this day. I think it was a pork plant. The people inside with the big blades and hundreds of eyes filled with hostility for my well fed american ### walking around inside THIER country.

See if I ever see another plant again. And Beef was my bread and butter most of the time. I never realized that these people were willing to work in those conditions... maybe someday things will get better. But... whew. I'll stay with the crab houses, at least there the people were happy, singing sea chanteys and chowing down on some awful good frying right there on the job in the back of the house making ready for to load em into the trailer.

Clemens Foods deals with pork. They have a big farm and plant in Hatfield PA. Don't know if they have one down around DE/MD.
