    Tmc uses those smart drive cameras. The videos are sent out to an independent contractor that reviews the videos and sends the ones with possible violations to tmc safety. I was called several times about no seat belt. Each time i was at a consignee or a shipper. They didn't hold any of them against me. This could be a similar policy swift has

    And the cameras are only in company trucks... for now.

    I still get a kick out of the paranoid tin hatters who think that Swift or any other company using driver cams ( and that includes Freymiller, so you can drop them off your better company Chinatown) are using the cams to spy on the drivers or to otherwise try to push their drivers out the door. It's been said before, but I'll say it again: Swift does NOT control the cameras. The incoming videos, that are only triggered by some kind of event on the truck, are reviewed by the camera company and if any designated violations are viewed they send that video to Swift for review and coaching. And as for watching during off duty hours, Swift is changing the operation (or ordering the camera company to change it) so that the inside camera and microphone is disabled when off duty or in the sleeper. Exactly how that is gonna work, I'm not sure, but it should be a step to prove to you idiots that Swift doesn't care what you're doing on your own time.

    I also find it humorous that drivers complain about the driver facing camera but are ok with the outward facing camera. Let me assure you, the outward facing camera WILL get you in just as much trouble and likely fired as the driver facing cam. I'm currently facing getting fired because of several videos they claim showing me following too close, not taking into account that most of these videos show nothing more than normal everyday flow of traffic with cars and trucks merging in front of me and then pulling away. Granted, some of the traffic doesn't clear away as quickly as others, but there is still no danger as traffic is moving along. The always ask "what if?" So? What if? If I worried about what if all the time, I would never get out of bed. I do my best to be safe out here everyday, all the while observing these super truckers that are always bashing on Swift and how unsafe we are running ten or twenty feet off the bumper of the car in front of them. And they stay there. They don't back off. They just sit there, close enough they can probably see what the driver is tapping on his phone. All the while, I'm trying to maintain at least a minimum of 200 feet or more, and I'm the one that's called unsafe.

    And for all of you who are gonna say "why fight for a job at Swift?" I actually like working for Swift. They aren't a bad company when you know how to work the system. And I've looked around at other companies, including more local or regional to where I live, and I can't find anyone who is gonna pay close to what I'm making now. So I'm kind of stuck.

    Same here, caught on two occasions, both cases I Goaled and didn't bother putting it back on. Seems to be a non issue. But at least once I've looked up to see the red lights going back and forth after a student took a pothole to fast.


    I've already pretty much forgot the camera exists. Had it since April I think.

    We all know a sharp jolt will set it off. It is to be expected.
    What is nice is that Swift is not harassing us for little things like no seat belt while docking.

    The camera is, so far, a non-issue with me.

    My truck (I drive for Duncan & Son Lines) has a camera. Not only does it chime anytime it "thinks" there is an event (like the monster potholes in SoCal) we have a "button" that we're expected to remember to push anything there is an incident (so it can capture the last 30 minutes). Here's the kicker.......we (the drivers) are expected to remember to have the video card changed every 30 days. Our safety department (2 women) have to randomly review the cards for the 180 company trucks in our fleet.

    The camera can save (or bury) a driver's career in an instant. No "he said...she said", it's right there in living color (and audio) for anybody to see. I ran a camera in my personal truck when I was an O/O for Swift.

    Yes, the camera in my Duncan truck has an inward facing lens to record what the driver was doing at the "moment". If it every records an incident there will be some awesome audio along with the video. I rant constantly about the crappy drivers around me as a form of stress relief. Did the same thing working traffic as a controller for 32 years.

    The video card...
    Do you mean the memory card? Like an SD card?

    If that is the case, what would the 2 women in safety be reviewing? The last 11 hours of your day?
    Because no matter the camera, it can store more than 11-20 hours or so with a 64GB card.
    (That would depend on the size of the memory card and how much was dedicated to storing saved events.)
    And if all they want to do is watch what you are doing for that long, it is a witch hunt to find dirt on the drivers.

    The cameras in the Swift trucks do not have a replaceable card, it is all internal storage.
    All 8GB of it. That is enough for a few hours.
    The company can not just pull the card to spy on us, like it seems yours does.

    I'm not saying that 'someone' at Swift or the company that monitors could not download and view any file that was stored in the looped or saved video folders anytime they want, that would be silly.
    After all, our cameras are connected to the QC via WiFi - or directly wired, I'm not sure.
    The Cobra camera that I had would allow you to view and download any video clip via a smartphone app. I can't imagine the same capability is not available to the cameras Swift uses.

    It is different, however, to have to go in and pull small files randomly to find something than it is to have a fully loaded memory card with many hours to look at all at once.
