And I am not trying to bash anyone that is happy with their job. Some people don't have anchors that require them to be home.
Commercial driving is a job. You provide a service and in turn you get compensated. I clock in then out. I put as much distance between my work and personal life as possible.
I was trying to explain how OTR compensation works to my wife. She works in a commercial kitchen and makes sandwiches.
So hun, here is how it works. You don't get paid by the hour anymore, you get paid $0.35 per sandwich that you make. Your orders aren't always the same, some days you make 400 sandwiches, others you can make up to 600. Btw, if your griddle breaks down, you aren't making sandwiches. Think of the old saying "if your stove aint burnin' you ain't earnin".
Btw, be careful around the inspectors. If your sandwich tracker isn't updated or your griddle doesn't meet health code, they may fine you and place you and your griddle out of service until you get the issue fixed. Company policy is that if you don't get put out of service, you get a $0.01 CPS (cent per sandwich) quarterly incentive.
Oh, one more thing... You gotta set up a cot behind your griddle. For your ten hours off between shifts. Two weeks out, two days home. Unless you work for Jimbo's... Their kitchen policy requires a mandatory 4-6 weeks of straight cooking. You are scheduled to work 13.5 hours per day. You get a mandatory 30 min break before your 8th hour regardless if you are fired up and just wanna finish your daily orders.
If you get sick then you don't make sandwiches and you don't get paid. Take some time off in your cot ......Unless your boss is a jerk and tells you to cover your coughs and sneezes. Act normal and try not to burn down the kitchen.
My wife looked at me pretty shocked. But she also thought I had too much to drink.

If you meet the quota of "x" number of stops per hour, nothing will be said. -

Speaking of returns... This is a short story about Bob. Bob works with me. I had a returned delivery today. Our senior driver Bob(who is in charge of the routing) put me and my truck on a 40 min round trip into his delivery area. Not kidding. I went way out of bounds and was now touching middles Bob.
I am six pallets deep of electronics going to Jimmy's Electronics.... I am also 40 minutes out of route. I get to my destination, and I am dock blocked by Bob... Yes, Bob runs this area... It is HIS turf. He has four pallets for the same place as me... I am now forty minutes out of bounds and dock blocked by the same guy that routed me.
This wasn't an issue of space on the trailer. Piss poor planning on Bob's part. Bob is stupid and I hate him.Mike2633 Thanks this. -
There is at least one "Bob" in every outfit.....

Bob is a nice guy.. his smile reminds me of a rainbow. Has nothing to do with the box of crayons he ate prior to clocking in.
Bob Dobalina, Mike2633 and Big Don Thank this. -
Your senior driver also handles routing?
Gee, no chance for favoritism there. -
