I almost snapped my right wrist twice from power tools binding, in fact I'm certain I broke something once, now that I'm 51, everytime I shift forward, there are days when the little stop at the top of the movement really hurts. OTR it never bothered me that much cause you don't shift like you do on the local.
So I still say autos are heresy, but yea I'd drive one for local, but I don't think I'd want one for OTR.

You don't want/need an auto to run 'local'. I think it totally changes the way one drives. I average 12 hours/day in and out of Atlanta heavy traffic ( get dispatched that way 'cause 'don't complain about it' ) and guarantee you'll spend more time 'on the brakes' than I 'on the clutch'.

At 64,000lbs gross (on three axles only) PATIENCE is key otherwise one winds up driving just like a 4-wheeler!! Getting paid 'by the hour with OT helps too!! My C13 CAT can lug third gear up just about any small incline AT IDLE auto transmissions by nature overwork the engine RPMS and can be noisy, unsmooth riding as hell (and a JAKE can just make it worse!!)

I don't use "the brakes" much, more than I 'ave to, with 'an auto' your on them ALL THE TIME!!

20160921_180231.jpg Well well well....you guys have jinxed us! 9 of these just arrived to our terminal and they're ALL automatics! Like I stated before, I'm not necessarily opposed to them. But I'm also not looking forward to driving them in the snow, hopefully I keep my 10spd Volvo.
