.the truck doesnt have a fridge.i want to install a fridge but was wondering even with an inverter connected directely to the truck batteries will it destroy and drain them?i am a company driver.i currently have an electric cooler,microwave,1000 watt inverter.dont like the cooler, its hoggin up my dc outlet with the fan i use in the sleeper.does the electric cooler drain the tractors batteries than a fridge? soon the heaters will be on in the truck for winter and it will change the ambient temperature.....space inside the truck isnt an issue.any recommendations on a fridge perhaps a freezer?thx

I know that the coolers are rough on the batteries. I have never had a fridge, but am looking to put one in this weekend. This is the 1st truck that I ever had a inverter in.

It will drain the batteries as will anything some trucks have a low voltage sensor that sets off an alarm then it will shutt off all accesories untill you restart the truck to recharge the batteries.

My trainer had a fridge with freezer, microwave, tv, play station, 12 volt cooler, then I plugged in my laptop, his cell phone and my cell phone it would last about 8 hours before the alarm would come on.
If you run the microwave unplug everything and idle the truck to keep it in enough juice to have full power.

You will need atleast a 2500 watt inverter to run everything I would recommend to buy the biggest you can afford you will want to put in an inline circuit breaker close to the battery incase you have a problem with the power wires. That way you will not burn up the truck if a short happens.
Plot usually sells the 2500 watt for 199.00 if you look around you may be able to buy one at a place like harbor freight for less it is a local tool store here in my area and they have stores in alot of areas.
I was told it would be better to buy at a plot because of the amount of truck stops that are out there. That way if it goes out prematuraly you may be able to exchange it.

Even with the most carefull installation driving down the road may wear through the insulation of the power wires so check them monthly if you see one getting thin replace it before anything goes wrong.

But I still do not recommend running the microwave with other things running it will not hurt to unplug the fridge for 3-15 minutes just remember to plug it back in.

Thats great advice! I will have to call my hubby and tell him that! We just bought a fridge (coleman I think) for his truck- Walmart camping department - $85! It gets cold enough to almost freeze a coke.

Youst check with your companies policies for inverters..........
Some companies limit the watts of inverters installed in trucks....
My company limits them to 1500w

Check before you invest and throw away the reciept.......
