For lunch (if I even bother to eat lunch), I grab half of the hoagie that my wife put in my cooler before I left for work in the morning.
If I want a snack, I open up the pistachio lovers' nut mix that I bought at Sam's club, and nosh on that.
Breakfast is 12oz. of coffee mixed with 8oz. of hot chocolate, served in a 24oz Love's coffee cup. Sometimes combined with a banana and / or half of a bacon egg and cheese sandwich that my wife packed for me.
It's hard to eat much at one time when you're fingerprinting freight.
What do you guys normally eat for lunch?

So I really did give up a lot for this "lifestyle change." As I said, three long years. I'd lose quite a lot, hit a plateau, but stay with it. Got down to 218. (Target weight 190 - 200.) Stayed at 218 for a year or so.
Then a couple of things happened. Got discouraged, and went OTR about the same time. Stayed with low carb for a couple more months, then fell off the wagon completely.
It started coming back slowly. I was still trying to be at least a little careful.
Came off the road to local LTL, and pretty much maintained around 230 for several years.
Finally retired due to a series of injuries that just kept getting worse. More health problems, more sedentary than ever. Etc etc etc
My point here is, don't go into a "lifestyle change," (most of us call it a diet,) without giving it a lot of thought. It's going to be tough to deal with no matter how you do it. BUT eliminating completely any food you love, is begging for failure.
I think that for me, the secret is portion control, and activity.
I've got a family member that has been obese, grossly obese for most of her adult life. She opted for lap band surgery. Went through months of counseling, and classes on weight control. She was convinced this was the "fix all," for her. Vowed to do the several light meals a day, etc etc etc.
Long story short, she had the surgery. Lost about 60 pounds. But, she won't stay the hell away from McDonald's! Nothing more to say... -
I usually get fuel, shower, and a sit down meal late in the evening even if I get back in the truck to get a few more miles. I will normally eat a good breakfast. I have never had any luck getting in and out a place in the middle of the day so I just stay on tge throttle

What do you consider a good breakfast?

She went to more of a carby diet eating bran muffins and turkey and some chicken no red meat at all and whole wheat stuff (it was awful awful I tell you I don't care who knows this, turkey on a sub sand which is one thing, outside of that though I really do not like turkey, I don't like it at thanks giving and I don't like turkey products at all well eventually my mom couldn't stand the turkey either) anyhow she did that whole thing and her cholesterol did drop it dropped 30 points which was good, problem is it was still high and she hit a wall on that.
Other problem is okay the cholesterol was down, but all those carbs get stored on your body. So then she went the other direction we started eating meat and cheese again cut down on the carbs and I love french fries (however we never fried our french fries we always baked them in the oven) and we sell at GFS these little Simplot Mini Potatoes ohhhh there soooooo good dipped in ranch dressing yum! So okay we go back to eating meat and cheese and she started dropping all the stored energy, but her cholesterol went up so in a years time she pretty much didn't get anywhere.
The problem is and you make a great point you can't just go from one extreme to the other it's not going to work, your better off just eating less really that's probably the best thing you can do really eat less, but still eat what you like, because going left to right and right to left every 6 months doesn't at the end of the year accomplish anything.
My mom now is back to square one although I think she's realized she has to find some middle ground and truth be told I'm not huge on fish and my parents tried to get into fish and they couldn't do it and now we do not really eat any fish at all. Part of the reason is one time my mom bought some Salmon and we cooked it at it stunk up the house for almost 3 days and that was pretty much the final nail in the coffin for fish. -
@Mike2633, I assume, (bad word, I know,) that your mom is under a doctor's care? Is she on any cholesterol drugs? If not, perhaps she should be. A bad LDL/HDL level is something to really try to correct.
OBTW, if you don't much like the food at mom's place, then maybe it's time for a place of your own?Mike2633 Thanks this. -
Most truck stops have prepackaged salads or veggies or fruit. Don't eat the creamy dressings. I use tabasco, mustard, oil and vinegar or just black pepper to season.
Drink more water. Your body needs the clean water to cleanse, the water will also help control your appetite.
Good luck.Mike2633 Thanks this. -
She is not on cholesterol drugs and doesn't want to be on them and that's the big struggle, it seems to me and my dad says this as you age despite your best efforts sometimes stuff just gets away from you and try as you might there's only so much you can do on your own. She's trying very very hard not to go on cholesterol medication and she's not really under a doctors supervision. Just trying to manage the best she can on her own, she's kind of at the end of her rope now though and doesn't really know what to do.Big Don Thanks this. -
nothing but all raw, fruits & veggies, water only to drink.
