I am starting the academy this month and just found out my wife is expecting our third baby. I sent my recruiter this question but haven't heard back so I wanted to ask here too. Does anyone know if they will grant me a leave of absence? I've heard of some people being able to get one for the same reason but wasn't sure if this company would do it.

Yes and no. Yes they will let you take a leave for a few weeks but you will have to give up your truck. Also since you will be working there less than a year you won't qualify for FMLA.

Basically because of that you will have to come out of pocket for the full cost of your insurance or lose it. They can also make to wait longer to qualify for your vacation time. But if it is only a few weeks it really isn't a problem.

Maternal leave should already be a protected behavior. You absolutely should be able to go home for a while. But you will leave everything behind. When it's over and head back out, you will have to be issued a different tractor and everything.

I'm definitely irritated because my recruiter has been very quick to reply but now I'm hearing nothing back since I asked this question.

Congratulations on the new expected baby. Hope all works out well, I know your wife will miss you and have her hands full with the other children.

That's because they probably no longer want to hire you. You are asking for time off, before you're even officially hired. They don't want to deal with that. Plus they're probably thinking if you have the nads to ask for "leave" NOW, what are they gonna be dealing with in the future.

    tlalokay Thanks this.
