I'd like to request yourself as my trainer lol if I ever get up the confidence to get that Class A. It's these trainers in these mill schools that cause the cycle of negative thinking in my case and in turn, almost exacerbate the anxiety. One of my trainers at the school I was at could tell that I was anxious and said something about having to use 'kid gloves' with me :( I mean, driving a 45 foot coach bus for almost 15 years is not the same as stepping foot into a truck and trailer. Even I recognize that. But like yourself, I loved doing chartet work, tour work so I figured that I would love the open road myself too. But that school did not work out. I need to find another school if I want to try trucking still, but the next school would need to take that 'kid glove' approach. And I am not quite sure if there are many who would be willing to work with me because even though my record is spotless, and I do have the talent, and the ability to grasp things, I need the right kind of training and trainers. And my confidence rebuilt again.

Welcome, I tried Lexapro and it just made me gain weight. So, I got off that. And anyways, the ideal situation would be to master the anxiety without any kinds of medication.

A trainer can influence a lot... Look for a community college that offers CDL training... It will not only be MUCH cheaper than a CDL mill but it will also have a longer program so that you will have more time to practice.
My school was a community college in GA. They had a 3 month program, one instructor per 10 students, lots and lots of trucks... That helped A LOT... I could take my time and practice as much as I wanted.
And since my mom passed away in Brasil when I was only one week from my final exam, I decided to halt my CDL and went to Brasil for a month to be with my dad.
When I came back, started the program almost all over again... at no extra cost. It was a total of almost 6 months... Which was good for me... I wasn't in a hurry and wanted to practice as much as I could before taking the exam. Passed with flying colors... :)

Then... my first company gave me 3 instructors... first one didn't give me much opportunity... I would only drive on highway... he would do the backing everywhere... second one was a very nice guy, made me feel a little more relaxed but I had him for only one week or so... third and last one was a lesbo Natzi... "She" was as cold as ice, never smiled, always angry, impatient, demanding, shouting, verbally abusive, not allowing me to eat in the truck, stressed me out SOOOO MUCH that I started screwing up, like getting very nervous and forgetting what I knew... We were in the truck for 3 days and then I left that company...

Had a very nice trainer in the next company... He was funny, never stressed me out and made me feel very at ease... and I passed their tests with flying colors again... :yes2557: That company had a mandatory 6 month teaming.. I chose it cause I thought that would "help" me to relax, having someone else in the truck... But after 2 weeks I realized I should be better off on my own. :biggrin_25523:

In any case, I was able to survive those 6 months... teamed with 7 different people and after that I was READY to go solo... even though that was my VERY FIRST WINTER driving a vehicle on snow in my life...
I am originally from Brasil and had never driven anything on snow before... used to live in GA and would avoid driving during winter... :biggrin_2559:

If this is timely enough-- Driving anxiety is the symptom of deeper lying conflicts in your mind. People make all kinds of promises and prescribe medication that rarely if at all have an affect. I found the solution that completely rid me of all driving anxiety in 3 days (totally). After the first day I had gotten rid of 75%. Day 2 90%. Day 3 99%. There is only one solution that has no side effects and works every time for every person. I am only telling you this because I promised God that if I found the solution I would report back to other sufferers. You have to see a hypnotist! But not any hypnotist. It has to be one like Derren Brown. And I was blessed to run into the 5th ranked in the world. It was not cheap, but it could never be too expensive to save your life from driving anxiety and other mental illnesses. He flies all over the world and helps the richest and poorest people who suffer with these illnesses. I'll just say it's guaranteed to work without any possible doubt, and it cost me $350 a session. He is in Florida, but will travel if you pay the expenses. How much is it to gain your freedom and sanity? If you are serious I can share with you my session video and you can see me driving the same day, and then onto i-95 and other major highways with no panic. Yes, I'm promoting him for free so I can save you from your misery. If you are serious, then contact me to get his info. And you can see his work all over youtube, plus he has been all over TV, and was used as a consultant for movies involving hypnosis. This is real and not a con. He is very well known, but I don't want to flood him with non-serious people. Make the move! send me a request at blueswan2000@ureach.com.

I am inclined to follow Dumdriver's action and go hawhawhawhaw..

what is this tripe from mr help?

The thing that got me going is really simple. I-95 and anxiety? If that is a problem enough to make you a unsafe driver then GTFO of the road. You shouldnt be running a big truck at all. When I go onto 95 wherever it might be Im going to go do battle, there is no anxiety here. Just annoyance at some of the stupid things cars do day in and and day out. I actually prefer to run it at night anywhere so that the stupids go away and the road will generally be filled with truckers who are mostly good.

It takes a awful lot to get me anxious about anything and frankly it's I am there, then brother you are fixing to see trouble right quick. how we come out of that would depend on a number of things. The best outcomes is when dispatch does not know a #### thing about what just happened.

I have similar problems with eating disorders and stomach anxiety. Some days I just tense up and cant even eat proper food. This stress causes tension headaches from TMJ. Refuse to take any meds for it though except ibuprofen for the TMJ pain. I think it's more to do with my situation.

Learning something in a curve always introduces a stress. I can plan out and put together a computer in a relatively quick time now, but my first machine required about 7 weeks of researching the parts to be sure that each and all of them will not only be the current then best there is but also ran together mathematically etc. Learning to do anything new ever for the first time in life, whatever it is is stressful.

Sometimes tummy aches etc comes along, unfortunately moltrin has been a source of stomach problems. It's back to excessive acid, so you ate certain foods that like to be Ph nuetral and avoided those with acid such as onions etc.

Medicine by itself is not terribly bad provided you are not screwed up. I take 4 seperate medicines several times a day and two of those when I need to for the day. If I am not enduring something difficult like taking ex to the VA which is one of the things I will do always until one of us passes on, I take extra medicine to force the body through the long days. Also tend to eat lot of beef and such exactly as I used to back in trucking lumping with big meals during difficult days. Some things never change.

For those whose prodcedures or learning processes is so stressful that they cannot or will not function, visit the primary care and explain that there is a need for a generic form low dose version of a Valium class medicine. that will take your body's stresses literally off your mind so you are free to mentally take in what is happening and why. However it is not a good solution long term. It can and does hurt people if they take too much or take it for too long. The withdrawal etc destroys them unless medically supervised.

I can blater on but I think I said enough. It's ok to learn new things in life. in fact, I demand you learn something new each day. That is life worth living. If you stopped learning, then you stopped living. Is that a fair statement?
