The problem with driver facing cameras, even if only used for a "critical event," is that pretty much anything you do could be used against you. Blow your nose........... distracted driving. Take a drink of water................ distracted driving. Change a radio station.............. distracted driving. Singing with a song on the radio............... distracted driving. The threshold of what a professional driver is being held to, is starting to be unattainable.

It is just sad. Yes, still a great job................. but.................. how many senior drivers would they lose over driver facing cameras??

Yes it is sad. We're getting all the same stuff our Swift dedicated uses. Guess they don't think of us as the best of the best anymore.

Guess they don't trust you and I to drive their trucks.

Start mount pleasant Iowa Monday. It took almost 2 months tho, my background went quick, but everyone else must not of, it was about 7 weeks after my pre-trip. Sorry for the confusion. The contacting of my former employer was very quick after my road test.... 2 days.

Starting Monday for orientation @ WM and just left Conway/XPO. As you guys probably already know, they were one of the first companies, if not the first, to install driver facing cameras.
When they first installed them, there were a lot of senior drivers that grumbled about it (what's new). Me, I couldn't care less. My thought was, "if they want to watch me pick my nose, so be it." I am in a company vehicle, doing company business and what's the difference in this and being in the office with the Terminal Mgr.?
They coached us on what the cameras actually recorded. The cameras we had WERE on a continuos loop. They activated if you had screeching, smoking brake lock-up. If you hit a pothole (or a tree) so hard that it shook your teeth. And they had a button you could press to activate it (used it several times). No sound.
When activated, it would back up 6 seconds and record forward for 5. Any event that was recorded was reviewed by the safety dept. and if deemed a safety issue, kicked down to the local terminal the driver was out of. And normally you were given a "coaching event".

In the two years we had them, I never saw one person fired. And when I left, our safety record was one of the best in the area. Also seen a few jobs exonerated because of the cameras.

Just posting my experience with them. Information purposes only. Not going to debate it cause I do not care about them either way.

....also, the person reviewing could not watch any of the video. Just the 11 second snapshot of the event.

As far as driver facing cameras go...I would think drivers should cover it during their sleep time. You know, in case their pjs...if they wear them..are not..umm..modest??? Lol. Personally, I wouldn't trust when they are and aren't recording. Outward facing would def show how many other drivers disrespect truckers.

....or, have it linked to the log program to cut off the driver facing portion during DOT break or when off duty.

They are coming. Our safety has confirmed it. They will be getting them in their cars as well. Camera will back up 10 secs on a critical event and 5-10 sec after. They will not be on when your in your sleeper. When the key is on, it will be on. I don't care either. Company Truck, company time. Just do what your supposed to do. If you get in an incident or accident, don't forget to have your finger in your nose! Lol jk. Be safe everyone.

In the company cars too. That's awesome!! Conway never did that, and I thought that was kinda lopsided.
