They are cheap, but you can definitely taste the difference between fresh and stale. The ones I delivered to weren't known to be the cleaniest of places either. They LITERALLY had rats, mice, roaches, and other things I never new even existed crawling all over the products. I personally would never buy from a thrift store, knowing what I know.

Expiration dates are usually something the manufacture recommends for taste. It doesn't mean you can't eat them after the date is expired, but you have to use common sense, like if it smells bad or has mold growth. Can goods are a prime example of that. And let's not forget about Twinkies, they're famously known to last over 20 years.

You've been to entenmanns thrift stores? Grooosssss! I'll hold off and buy from my regular grocery store if they have what you say they have.

Nah, but Entenmanns is made by our biggest competitor at the time, Bimbo Bakeries, and Hostess and Bimbo are pretty much run the same way. I'm not saying their thrift stores are any better than what we had, but when you're dealing with stale products, it tends to attract all kinds of nasty critters.

Let's just say I wouldn't want my family taking a chance eating those stale products, and I couldn't in good consciousness recommend them for anybody else.

I delivered some shelving to one of those "thrift stores" a month or two ago.

I hope I never encounter that smell again. :biggrin_2552:

They have em deep fried now, in regular and chocolate cream.

    I never liked them, either.

Me neither, and I delivered them. I think it was more of a nostalgia thing than anything else, because it couldn't of been for the taste.

Around here we used to refer to the bakery outlet thrift store as "the day old bread store."
