I get the feeling I'm going to be eating at a lot of truck stops till I figure out what I can use in the trucks I'll be running. Biggest thing will be coffee. Gotta try to find a 12v electric kettle. At least that way I can do French press :)

Get a cheap thermos and fill it with hot water at the truck stop for your French Press. Water is free. That is what I did when I French pressed before switching to Earl Grey tea in the morning.

not a bad idea but I'd rather fill the thermos with coffee :D unfortunately I can't drink tea anymore. It started to upset my stomach severely. The exception to that is Oolong tea. Even the herbal teas I used to drink are a no go now

I did that for a while.. and at 2 bucks a fill.. per day. it adds up. I'd rather just buy better coffee and do it myself. But... to each his own. lol.

I'm late to the party on this one, but...

5 years ago I purchased a 12v fridge from truckfridge.com. It originally came with a freightliner cascadia plug on it so I could just plug it into factory wiring.. but when I changed companies and was assigned a Pete 379 that obviously wasn't going to work... so I cut the end off and put some ring connecters on it... then screwed it into the back of an inverter and plug the inverter in. I could have just crimped its own cig lighter plug on it but at the time where I placed it I only had one port and used the mini inverter as well.. so it worked well. The plug stays nice and cool.. not even slightly warm to the touch.. and this thing runs 24/7 even on hometime (note I do have an inverter and APU as well so I have options).

Below are pics. (sorry for the rotated pic.. tinypic did it and I can't fix it). Not sure if they changed the features of it in newer models.. but it does me nicely. I mostly just eat lean cuisine type meals as if you look there are some tasty and healthy ones and its good portion control...and only cook once in a while... but the fridge will fit aobut 7 in there nicely with room for cheese, meat, and a half gallon of almond milk.

The fridge isn't cheap though at near or over $500 shipped.. but if you do the math... I paid $500 5 years ago and she is still running! and, I just put it right in my closet on the passenger side.. fits perfect in all trucks so far.

Sorry I meant that I would rather fill the thermos with coffee rather than hot water. LOL there is no way I am going to continually fill my thermos with truckstop coffee. I Have Become a bit of a coffee snob over the years

I only bought that when I first started out and was at companies where you couldn't have anything more than a plug in inverter. For me that worked best. Now? I've learned to pick out companies that offer creature comforts for drivers. But, since I still have it, it's what I use. I blame it on my greenhorn'ness back in the day. lol.

Driver get a crock pot 2 quart size like me, draws 95 watts at 120 volt, you just about heat anything you want up for dinners, etc and have left overs. They cost less than $20.00 at Walmart. I don't know if you cook your own but if not buy up some name brand soups etc. Like I said before you can even drive while it's cooking, it's got high, low, and warm settings . enjoy
