Baseball Sweetheart and AfterShock, you both make sense. I had serious misgivings about calling Covenant even though I am very concerned. I agree that sometimes there is a line that shouldn't be crossed and when it comes to a man's place of work, the wife needs to butt out. I've always felt that spouses calling the place of work is bad juju but I thought I'd at least toss that idea out there to get others' thoughts. Redcoat is just going to have to deal with this problem on his own terms.
I also agree with AfterShock about being straight with Covenant. We have been honest with everybody (government, recruiters, etc.) up to this point -- no sense in trying to be covert this late in the game. The next time Redcoat calls me I will see if I can convince him to at least give the company some kind of notice. He's not thinking straight and he's heard horror stories about former employees not getting their money. I know here in the forums that I've seen several posts about similar instances where drivers didn't get what was owed to them (they thought) but I also make note that in this venue we normally only get to hear one side of things and sometimes you have to wonder if maybe a detail or two were left out that caused some extenuating circumstances.
Maybe I can get him to call safety and clue them into his state of mind about how terrified he is that he will damage their equipment. When I talk to him, it sounds like he's suffering from Post Traumatic Stress except this isn't post, it's current. If he tells the company what's going on as it pertains to himself and his performance (duly noted without criticizing his trainer) then the ball will be in Covenant's court as to what they want to do with him. That should take the onus off Redcoat and maybe things will turn out for the better.
And, yes, we all have our different learning styles don't we...
I will see if I can convince him to try to show good faith if they offer a change of trainers. At the very least it will give him a couple days down time (most likely) and he can gather his wits about him for hopefully another go at it.
So now my gameplan is to:
a. Get him to call his trainer manager (once he finds out who that is)
b. Get him to talk to safety
c. Convince him to give Covenant a chance to try to fix things
The worse that could happen is they decide to do nothing (which I doubt if their saftey folks are worth their salt) or they decide to terminate him in which case he'll be right where he figured he would be if he quit. Hopefully they will at least give him a bus ticket to somewhere close to me so I can go get him. After all, I saved them bus $$$ when I drove him up to Dallas for orientation which was a 160-mile round trip from Waco where I ate the cost of gas.
I'll let you all know how successful I am when he calls me this evening as he usually does after he finishes his 9-11 hours. Wish me luck.

If Redcoat decides to change trainers, send macro 27 (it goes to training coordinator) requesting a new trainer. His trainer may get upset for loosing his bonus (so what). And Redcoat may be routed to terminal and sit and wait for another trainer (who knows for how long). But that's an option. Trainer coordinator is Shannon. Good luck. Feel free to pm me if you need...

Although, that IS pretty neat.
That HAS to be disconcerting.
And it helps a bunch to keep an open mind, and read betwixt the lines.
Just think of the stories Redcoat will be able to tell after his ordeal. He now has the opportunity to open the eyes of others considering entry into the world of Big truck truckin'. I hope he will do that. And I hope he can end his stories with a success.

I'd plan on Covenant NOT agreeing to do that. Then, if they DO, you're ahead of the game.
Then again, Covenant might agree for Redcoat to hitch a ride with another driver goin' that way. But I suspect they'd require him to be an employee for insurance reasons, --- unless they'd agree to sign the paperwork allowing a non-employee passenger.
If not, that oughta be a clue.

I was thinking, you know, at SOME point this guy has got to start showing Redcoat how to do all the paperwork stuff, qualcom stuff, scales stuff, and all the other stuff that ain't directly behind the wheel. In my mind that would have been the FIRST thing I would have started with. I would have been like, OK we're going to cover all the paperwork and computer stuff first and if you feel like driving you let me know when you're ready and you can hop in. When you need a break, you let me know and we'll switch. Then the student learns at his own pace and we TALK to each other. (What a concept!)I loved the idea of pulling over to make sure of map and terrain stuff. Pre-planning. WONderful thing. Pilots do it all the time.
I do it as well in the RV as I travel. I have even been known to park the rig at a Wal-Mart, unhook my truck and go to the campground to scout where my spot is and how I'm going to get there and get in it. I HATE surprises when I'm 60 feet long....

You are in the right place for some GREAT advice from some of
the nicest and highly knowledgeable people anywhere. Whole heartedly agree with BBSweetheart(great name) and her statment that HE needs to request (demand) a better trainer. AfterShock
has also given some great insights as well. Most people(99.9 %) of
people on this forum have been there/done that..and will offer much support as humanly possible...
Redcoat has not chosen the easiest of profession to break into. Alot of stress is put on the newbie unfairly by lousy,inept,and greedy trainers. All the see is another logbook to use and abuse.
Its not right, but it happens. Some fault lies with the companys for not getting rid of the lowlifes when they should.
My 3rd day as a newbie was driving thru Washington DC at rush hour on a Friday heading to MD. Talk about an Eticket ride at Disneyland(think i just dated myself). White knuckle all the way.
It can get better and will get better, just Not with his current trainer..... Good luck to you both............Hang in there...... -
