I figured since I spent so much time on the west coast, and spent most of my time asking mudducks "who tuned that radio?" I figured I would share this and it just goes to show that just because someone gets a deal on some antique test equipment at Salvation Army, it doesn't mean they have a clue what they are doing with it. Notice Paul Senesac does much better work...
(Listen for Triple 2 Illinois) and you have heard Paul Senesacs work.

Notice Triple 2 in this Videogate. Better audio than most.

I know you've mentioned "talking through a toaster" somewhere on here before, but I did know a guy that did radio work on the west coast that would brag about doing just that. I know he isn't in the business anymore. Even 15 years ago radio work was getting tough on the west coast, as it was dying off, even though it wasn't hard to find conversations out side sesame street.

It's almost always white noise out there now. :( CA might be an exception.

That was a good starting point for me, and it definitely works. Once you get a couple hundred miles on it, you can judge if any more is needed. Another thing I found was over time, the effect wore off, and a smaller half tube (4g I'm guessing) to both hubs would bring it back. That seemed to last me till Penske would service the truck and find the dark hub oil, and change it on me... then start over again.

I have had no trouble with stock radios. Im not sure exactly how far out my Uniden PC76 xl will go but far enough out to clear a entire interstate for miles should I spot a tornado walking on to it.
