Rate per Mile for Owner Operator

I run for JCT $1.10 a mile x 2750 miles a week works out to $3025 a week. Ask most truckers will tell you that is an embarrassing disrepectful rate.

$600 a day times 5 days is beyond rude for a flatbedder to consider.

 

$1.10 to pull a reefer.
$600 300 mile days doing local flatbed in Chicago.

Driving a school bus is sounding more appealing everyday!

 

I was thinking more along the lines of pizza delivery . But to the OP, if and when you do decide to move your own freight in house please get back to us after a year or so. Let us know if you still think it was a good idea vs paying a fair rate to a dependable carrier. We promise we won't say we told you so.

 

Let's see. 100 mile radius, 300 miles/day - wouldn't that be 3 loads/unloads per day? That's a long day, a lot of work. Around Chicago? Yow. Truck transportation is valuable, point to point, a specific place and time, and that's an important function for business. I don't run flat, not yet, but those trips for $200 sounds a little low. By the time you figure the net profit, 50% if you're really tight with expenses and have a reliable rig, you're at $100 for a 100 mile, live on and off load. $100? Pretty low.

 

After reading this whole post I have came to my conclusion. To never talk about numbers and money on here. Geez ow gets hostile at times.

I for 1 wouldn't give you any $$ amount on lack of details. sure its 300 round miles trip (every night I pull a 215 mile) trip but whats these loads weigh?? Flat bedder so tarping required?? am I passing any weigh stations?? How fast is my payment??Is it nice roads or am I 2 laneing it?? How far you sch. these loads out?? Are they drop and hooks or how long my unload/load time?? Theres way to many varibles to give a dollar amount on this job. BUT on that note needs to be in person.. or 1 to 1.. not a group convo.

 

Even if it's as fast/easy as possible $600 for 300 local miles near a major city is crap..... Period


Throw in some aggravation on the loading/unloading and you are screwed.

 

Easy there, you don't wanna come off as some big shot acting like a millionaire.

 

$600 a day for an owner op? How's a guy supposed to live off that after taxes and running costs? Sounds like a downhill slope into the poor house.

 

There won't be taxes because there won't be any profit

 

Yeah the devil is always in the details. Funny though the ones looking for the lowest price usually have more BS to deal with on their loads than people who pay better. They don't have any respect for wasting a driver's time and why should they, after all drivers are dirt cheap right?

This guy saying he would just keep it in house reminded me of something amusing a buddy of mine shared with me. He moved a cross town tow away 53' dry van for $500 on about 10 miles. He was chatting with the guy at the trailer rental place and out of curiosity the guy asked him how much he got to move it???

My buddy says just $500. This guy almost crapped his pants and says "500 bucks!!?? are you serious? We move these over there all the time. I need to go get my own truck and move them myself!!" .......

We thought that was funny as hell this guy was all excited over some mediocre $500 move and all ready to go buy a truck and make a million bucks doing the same thing lmao!!
