Hey @MACK E-6, if you were to run something like that on the road, the things that would determine what you would need and how to load it would be the weight and the rear overhang. Texas, for example, allows you 30 ft. Some places allow more. The problem would come in would be the axle weight. Those big pipe can be heavy. The stretch would give you the ability to move the trailer axles closer to the rear of the load in order to axle out. The heavier the load, the more stretch you're going to need to axle out.

Then, of course, you're not so much worried about tails wing as you are making a turn. Any turn.

The thing about tailswing though is that it can bite you in the backside when you least expect it.

Many of my coworkers find that out the hard way when they insist on pulling 48's with the axles slid all the way forward because they don't know how to drive.

    Tail swing can bite you!
But I find it easier to manage the tailswing than the added wheelbase!
Six is spot on about where you run and weight.
I'm in the northeast and generally are allowed to overhang 1/3rd the load.
Picture trailer stretched to 60 feet with say six 90 foot long pieces strapped to it!!
Yes 30 feet hanging off the tail!!
    Not an everyday occurrence,
Not always ideal, but sometimes it's the best compromise to get the job done.

    Not me!
Permitted, permit required two escorts and two police escorts.
Tailswing, it's not just side to side, up and down too. A hump in the roads usually ok, but a hallow, well can break you! image.jpg

Motor and water pump to Syracuse, NY.

I wish I could haul something square that had to be tarped. All this goofy shaped stuff makes it hard to get the tarps tight.

How much you expect they charge you for mobile shrink wrapping those things?

Never looked into it. Sometimes things do get wrapped but usually not for this customer. We have another customer that we haul pump assemblies for that usually has everything wrapped.

I've told my boss that we should look into the cost of getting the supplies to do wrapping at our shop. For some stuff it would be much better than tarps.

The problem with this loaf was that the 2 tall weird shaped pieces were spread apart. If it was just the motor our just the pump it would have been better.

I complained about tarping shingles once. Got 3 porcupine tarp loads in a row after. Started wishing I could tarp some more shingles. Now I tarp everything but I don't care.
