I've worked in Canada for Canadian companies with my CDL. Maybe everybody knew even less than I did and I fell through the cracks.

Is an air endorsement required to run anything in Alberta with air brakes eg: off road loader? Can that endorsement be on a passenger vehicle licence as in B.C.? A friend of mine is thinking of going to Fort MacMurray for the winter and let his CDL expire and thinks he'll be OK. I told him he'll need air endorsement.

Yes you can use an air endorsement on a Class 5 (passenger vehicle) to run non articulated vehicles with air applications in Alberta.

I don't mind the questions that people really want honest answers to...It's the ones that are like the above you quoted that tick me off!

I would still be all over it, given the chance (and the go-ahead from the boss-lady).

Okay, here's a dumb question that begs to be asked, and I'm surprised no one has asked it.

How often do trucks actually go through the ice?

I'd imagine it's fairly uncommon, but it's the question I've always wanted to ask someone who did this.

That documentary was more or less the deciding factor for me to drive truck. I'd always wanted to, and seeing that made me want to put it on my "things to do" list and set me about looking into truck driving. I figured if I could get the necessary experience, it would be really neat to do for a season. My roommate thought I was nuts.

Now, I know it's entirely unlikely I'll ever do that. I'd need experience in the states, and then in Canada, and then experience driving where it's way cold, and probably my own truck. At this point I don't think I'll stay in the trucking industry long enough to finish the first of what I listed, let alone the rest.

    Howdy, neighbor!
If you don't mind my asking; why don't you think you'll stay in the industry long enough?

Oh, I'm sure my roommate's correct. He thinks I'm nuts about a lot of things, including not marrying him.

Most of my family thinks I'm nuts for driving a truck. I get used to it :)
