Work for Estes on the extra board, they will let you run just bounce from terminal to terminal staying in hotels. I'll probably do $1,500 after taxes this week and I go home for the weekend.

Being on the extra board if you choose to stay out for long periods of time will you go all over the country or stay in a particular area like midwest, east coast, etc etc?

I have seen guys from Georgia in California but usually you stay in your region I'm honestly not sure if they care much or not. I know they want to keep you somewhat close in case there is a run to cover at the home terminal but that's about all I really know.

Don't EVER stay out for a year without going home. That's just nonsense, even if you're a single person with no family/friends.
ALL of us need downtime: time to decompress, relax, enjoy something besides starting out a windshield ad's holding a wheel.
Not taking anytime off is a sure way to burn yourself out and become a hazard to yourself and others.

$1500/week on their extra board? After tax? Man, I'll get my pickup truck paid off in no time and then be able to scrounge up money for those helicopter licensing programs!!

Now I just need to get myself moved to where that work is.

    Mike2633 Thanks this.

I'm not going to join the crowd telling you not to stay out for as long as you want. You can have "down time" any where you are! There are things to do darn near anywhere.
Park the truck, rent a car or motorcycle and go play "Joe Tourist" all over the country. If you're strapped for cash, then keep the wheels rolling.
I'm curious about your experience and history. Are you just looking to join the transportation industry, or are you already a driver?
Or are you in driving school?
What does your driving record look like?
    How about former jobs?
    What is your education level?
Do you have a criminal record? (Having a criminal record won't necessarily mean you won't be hired. Lots of drivers have a "history.")
    How old are you?
    Do you have any handicaps?
All these questions and probably hundreds more, need to be looked at. I'm not talking about baring your soul on this forum, but you need to be able to answer these questions.

Bob Dobalina and bzinger Thank this.
