.... to drive in teams and doubles. He said he is willing to train me. Already met him, did drive test, and now waiting for FedEx to approve me. The contractor who will be my future boss seems alright. Very busy but I have nothing negative to say about him.

Is working for a FedEx contractor with a tiny business a good idea? Since he has a small company, I can't find any driver reviews on his company online. I just feel hesitant because I just don't want another May Trucking (a mega carrier) experience where they are all smiles but stab you when they don't like you and throw you under the bus like some used piece of ####. Can anyone offer advice and help?

I would be extremely cautious, and insist that everything be in writing. Everything!
When I worked at FedEx Freight, we hired a young guy who worked for a Ground contractor as a pickup and delivery driver. He had worked for him for two years without a day off. Seven days a week for two solid years.
Get everything in writing regarding pay, days off, any benefits that he may pay for (hard to say, I've heard some pay and some don't), vacation and sick time, etc.

Can you tell us how much this contractor said he would pay you?I could have got hired awhile back with a FedEx contractor for a dedicated route but the pay wasn't very good and I wasn't pleased. with the boss during the interview.

This is tough to say being that it all depends on the contractor, I have 3 trucks in fed ex I'm very happy with my drives and they are happy as far as i know what i offer is pretty simple being it's fed ex it's going to be W2 and also i offer paid holidays as a start once i see the driver is actually worth something they i also offer them paid vacation 1 week the first year and 2 weeks ofter that. I know it's not much but this is what i can offer. I know a lot of contractors that come to my shop and they go 50% 50% some are really good to work for and the driver swear by them and they never would leave they get very well paid and taken care of and at the same time i get some that hate the contractors they work for like with anything else it always depends on the person you are working with make sure you take a look at the truck you are going to drive and make sure everything is in good shape and it is well maintained some of the ones that i have see shouldn't even be on the road and cotractors do not want to put any money into them.

Do they train you on how to turn over and block the highway or do you have to learn that on your own?

Looking back, he seems to be always in a rush and we haven't done any paperwork that says he will promise this or that. I did the DOT medical test and I can tell there is some hesitation in him reimbursing me. When I return the paperwork receipt to him, I waited for him to reimburse me. I had to remind him at the end about the money and he reimbursed me willingly. He said he will show me around and talk more about how business will work the day before, but he was under some sort of dispatch so everything was rushed and nothing much was talked. He told me I could sleep in the truck, but when I got inside one of his truck for the road test, the bed was completely full of his stuff. While driving in the yard and coming to a safe stop, I killed the engine by not using the clutch to see how he reacts. He was like "WTF DID YOU NOT USE THE CLUTCH TO STOP????". I was expecting something more along the lines like "oh ####, use the clutch next time"

Thinking about it, my gut feeling is telling me that he is shady. I'm just not sure how much I should trust my gut feeling.

Read your own post again, and then tell me you have any doubts at all??? Based in what you just said, I would be running as fast as I could.

I would go with your gut instincts. If he's already hesitating about reimbursing you for a cheap DOT physical imagine how it's going to be the day you decide to leave. You'll never see money owed to you. Good luck to you

I'm not believing this at all.

Nobody in their right mind would deliberately stall a truck during their road test.
