Mine would beep loudly every time we changed lanes or "got too close". Drove us bonkers. We weren't sleeping for the racket. Called and told them to disable the alert sounds or we'd drop the truck off.

It was a line we swore we would never cross, letting someone install a camera. We're still here because our owner was forced into it. But if there was ever a HUGE motivator to get me outta the truck, this is it.

Hopefully, over time, more carriers follow this practice...

Well I was told tampering with the camera was a fireable offense.

But I've jumped into a bunch of other trucks and a lot of cameras have been either damaged, covered or torn down.

And since they probably HAD the footage of the guy that did it,,,

It looks like they don't give a ,,,

They are there to capture what the driver was doing immediately before the accident occurred. How is that an insult?

Ah, either a company shill, or one who doesn't know what it was like to truck when drivers were trusted to be professional and didn't need to be monitored and/or babysat.

Trucking was one of the few professions where you didn't have a boss looking over your shoulder all day long. Now, some companies are putting that boss (camera) right in the drivers face.

The freedom of the open road is fast disappearing...

But there is NO ONE WATCHING OVER YOU!!! The camera is there to record a 12 second snipit of time before and after an accident. it records in the cab to see if the driver was indeed being a professional , as you say, and paying attention.

    Currently,,,,

Believe me, once the bandwidth issues go down, they'll want the option.

As it is some companies can get realtime GPS or telemetrics from the Qualcomm or Elog system.
