leaving crst (dont want to but dont like team driving) ive been approed for knight and crete, gonna go regional. See all the bad things about knight and all the good things about crete but wanted to know if there was anybody in the se region of knight who could tell me what i should expect. Lots of the negative post I see are kinda old.

I dont run regional for knight but i do run coast to coast minus the new england states for knight... Now all in all its not a bad company but heres what you can exect... Kevin knight came back to the company (to mess things up) and has given every terminal/yard a quota on how many miles each of their drivers need to be making. Now this is where this hurts the driver, if a driver who works for terminal A enters terminal B's territory, terminal B dispatches them not their home terminal. now if terminal B has a driver of their own that needs the miles to hit their quota you are going to be SOL on getting a decent load since they all worry about their own and not the drivers of the other regions. Now if that made any sense then good if not then best of luck to you :p :biggrin_25525:

Jam drives for them. He is talking about retiring soon. I am surprised he has not answered to this post.

Obviously every company is going to have its good points and its bad points, Knight being no exception.

I left them about three years ago, so my info will likely be out of date. I drove for them out of Denver, had an excellent dispatcher. The tractor was a (practically) new Volvo, very comfortable.

I started out just running the western states, then went to a run that was a big loop. Got me home every week.

IMHO, the downsides were more than the upsides however. I always had to fight to get my drop & pick pay. I can't count the miles I drove to try to find MT trailers, without getting paid for it. Their trailer fleet was old and tired, however I understand that they have replaced a whole lot of them.

Any time you would hit ANY metro area, they would make you do one or two local hauls before getting you back on the road again. Local pay was extremely substandard, so they saved a lot of money by screwing the OTR drivers there.

Their health insurance was expensive, and not very good. We had quite a few problems with getting care providers paid in a timely manner.

I can not forsee any circumstance that would take me back to Knight.:biggrin_25513:

I started back with knight a month ago and i came to the refrigerated side of things, only because when i was out of the Atlanta terminal which you will find out is bad. my first home time i dropped my trl there on the yard considering i stay in griffin a driver was cleaning his truck out and going some where else. on the refeer side i am out of the Memphis yard and i am bringing in between 600 to 1000 so far. i would not recommend atlantas terminal to my worst enemy. so good luck with that orientation. as far as the insurance deal they switched over to a new health care provider that i heard was decent i will find out first of the year when mine kicks in.

Where? I always see drivers on here bashing every single company out there. But nobody offering suggestions on good companies. Being a newbie in this industry is impossible. The older drivers look down at you like you're a moron, and you practically have to work for free for at least (BARE BONES minimum) a year before anyone but the worst will hire you.

I'm sorta in the same situation. You should also compile a list of companies you might be interested in, and ask drivers when you see them at truckstops. More often than not, the drivers out there will tell you how they feel about X or Y company. Which is why Werner and Swift are blacklisted in my book. :)
