with so much talk about good companies and bad, for me its about the customers your dealing with. ive dealt with big retailers and small contracters as a company driver, i prefer smaller, i recently delivered a load to brooklyn ny, a load that nobody else wanted, but for me i liked it better than alot of these bigger corporations, i pulled up on the street (no dock) the guy came out who could barely speak english, i handed him the paperwork, he got his guys, they unloaded me and he signed my paperwork and i was gone, no nonsense, no waiting for paperwork for hrs, no lined up behind 10 other trucks, just the way i prefer it.

so my question is what kind of customers do u deal with at landstar doing dry van? i know u pick your loads and if u dont like a customer u dont have to go back again, but my main concern with any job is the customers you are servicing. you can lease a truck on a schneider and they have plenty of freight but its the customers that worry me there. it seems like they are always dealing with places that have too much going on and there is too much confusion which is what comes with those kinds of places, so if anyone wants to answer the same question about the customers at schneider feel free.

and dont b be one of those drivers who says its the same everywhere because as far as the companies ive worked at its not. we cant change alot of the nonsense in the truckin industry but we can choose where to work and what kind of customers we want to deal with, and thats what makes the biggest difference for me as far as job satisfaction.

I've been with Landstar since March so far I'm happy with it for me it's not the customers that I deal with as much as is it is the agents. Try to find an agent out there near you that you can work with that small enough that has those type of customers I've learned that once you establish a good relationship with an agent they keep calling for you.

Probably Elementary advice but it's what I've experienced so far

Well, LS has those type of customers, But also many big corporate accounts. We will service the "mom n pop" as well as the conways, FedEx and amazons of the country. Also the military, the ports, etc etc etc

Landstar doesn't have customers, their agents do.

This is important to understand because some customers are very loyal to the agents and will follow them.

To answer the question, the same as anyone else has.

If you don't like the answer, you will find out for yourself first hand because it is true.

I'm Landstar....when I ran van 5 years ago or so, I never done the Walmart/big distribution centers. Not saying agents don't have freight going there because I'm sure they do.....

Wow OP I totally agree with you. I like the small mom n pop warehouses instead of the super mega ones with 1000 rules. As a current company driver there is a multi stop run we do where I only deliver to stores that have one small dock and no matter what time I get there I just pull up and hand the guy my paperwork and he takes one or two pallets off and ten minutes later I am gone.
No sliding my tandems, wearing a vest, choking my wheels, dropping trailer and pull in front of it, waiting in line with security guard, shipper, and lumper giving them the same information over and over again, glad hand lock, etc. Just pull in, unload, and go.
