Just how big of a perk is not building sets considered to be? It's not hard and doesn't take a lot of effort, and gives you the chance to inspect the equipment as you go.

The thing about that is, wouldn't these guys still have to build them out on the road especially if they were doing triples on the turnpike. In Ohio you can't take triples anywhere, bu the toll road so you would have to be able to do the whole deal.

Guys that are triples qualified leave the Chicago Heights yard and go over to the drop pad in Hammond Indiana to pick up their 3rd trailer to head to Cleveland or Akron. Most guys do build sets and get paid by the click to do it. With the sleeper runs it's very abnormal to have to build a set since every terminal we go to has hostler that takes care of it. Running these sleepers is like a totally different job compared to turn bids or layover bids.

I think it would be a perk. I pulled doubles for a couple months and thought it was a pain in the rear having to hook and unhook a couple times a night. Trying to move a dolly over pot holes and gravel/unpaved lots isn't to fun. Certainly not every yard was bad but some were. I didn't just drive either, I would hook, then drive to whatever service center unhook, break them, work the dock all night then have to hook again drive back home unhook/break them again. Gets old quick.

I think you should stay where you are. The grass is very seldom greener on the other side. You will build seniority. This is what I think now. However, when the wife gets home she will tell me what to think.

Ya in 8 months that's good money. But when he goes solo he won't be anywhere near that type of money being the low man. I'd say go solo for 6-12 months to get yourself more experience then move on to a company you plan on staying with for your career.
