Everything depends on how the XB is. If I'm gonna be making any money or not. If I can put up with the craziness of being on call. I know I won't be making the money I would be on the sleeper runs. Maybe I'll luck out and land a single man bid. Who knows... My options open up after I get this first year done with.
Some of the guys that went to the school with me quit already. They are on their second/third driving job since they left. No decent company will touch them since they don't have that first year down. It probably looks worse if you have multiple jobs in that first year too. -
As a man who has 7 years in food and beverage. You have hit the sweet spot as a job. Your body will break down doing food going up and down the ramp. I'm trying to get on ltl now and would make the same or more w seniority. 75 plus a year isn't worth a messed up back knees and feet

@Digman943 you landed an LTL gig as your first job, congratulations. My opinion is that you should stay until the next contract is negotiated, I don't think you guys will get the entire 15% back but YRC will want to stay competitive so they don't have turnover. Yellow and Roadway used to be one of the premier LTL jobs in the industry, if you're okay with the work rules and seniority system you'll do just fine. I'd look around your facility at the age of some of the drivers, I'd reckon a lot of them are close to retirement. You can move up the board quickly and each year it should get better regarding a bid. Remember, the free insurance is huge and outlined in the CBA. Other outfits can have the freedom to raise insurance costs at their will. Some folks are anti union and will attack any Teamster, just exercise due diligence and weigh ALL of your options before you make a move. Not saying YRC will be the career answer for you, I'd recommend giving it some time before making a hasty decision that you'll regret.
skinnytrucker, De Trucker, speedyk and 3 others Thank this. -
I think they'll give the 15% back in 2019 which only bumps it up to .56cpm-.57cpm which is still well below the other LTL's but on my bid I can make 90k-98k with the paycut takin off then the 85k-88k I'm currently making. I think we'll always be .10cpm under the others. But it's very kick back place and still a good job.
speedyk Thanks this. -
@Pintlehook
You made some good points. I'm not a job hopper and I do hate changing jobs. I think most of me wanting to find a new job is this dam sleeper run. Man I'm tired of it! I need to get a taste of a day cab life style haha. -
@Radman
Sounds like your on a layover bid?
