I support the elog mandate. I drive team with my wife and we never run out of hours. Having a bunch of Cowboys running around using 3 log books at a time it's not good for the industry

Exactly what department (or agency) of the government isn't a joke...The IRS? The EPA? Todays government is oversized and over regulating and one of the biggest drain on taxpayers...

And what is stopping you from taking a 34 any time you want?

Just for the record loose leaf did away with the need for multiple log books just trash and rewrite. Not that I would ever do such a thing. And just to throw it out there the true laws of man are the Ten Commandments

Well, it usually isn't that extreme. That is taking the argument and swinging it wildly in the opposite direction. Most times it is just some simple "creative logging" in a single book. Sure, there are those occasional articles about some idiot killing a family and had been driving for 72 hrs, but realistically those are extremely rare occurrences.

While I like using Elogs, I am fully aware that the cookie cutter, one size fits all thing doesn't work across the spectrum. Livestock, produce, and some other instances, flexibility is required. And DOT has gotten pretty creative on how to catch someone operating well outside the bounds, even those using paper. Many scales and even some tolling locations have cameras with license plate recognition software that can track commercial vehicles. Technology is going to get everyone sooner or later. Just the nature of the beast.

I'm not going to get into a big thing here, but after reading for a few months and seeing many of the experienced drivers here mention the past, taking pills etc to keep driving and make bank, I do believe regulation is required.

In trucking and in most corporate spaces. The past has proven you cannot rely on man (corporations) to govern itself. Not any one man (corporation) at least. Hence the need to regulate.

Now if we were living in some kind of hippy utopia where every man (corporation) only does what is right and fair, we'd be golden. I'm not sure where you are from, but this is planet earth and we do not do this kind of thing here.

Over 3 decades at this game and I never felt the need to take anything to keep me going and play wild games with logs. Sure, I have fudged a little here and there, but never had any desire to run more than one book and was never put out of service or fined when checked. Never lost a job or was starved because of it. Simple rules I live by. I have paid my dues and will be treated decently. I will do my best but I will not be stupid. Was never less than 7 years with any carrier. Might still be with my last if it hadn't sold. Been with current one 9 years. Not going anywhere and making a good living.

It will change when the trucks start pilling up in their lots because of hours of service. Shippers, receivers, and brokers are 90% of the problem.

I'm not trying to play police, and I am not advocate for the current laws and regulations. What I'm trying to say is small carriers can and will adapt to ELOGS. If you want to break the law that is your choice and that's why the very reason the DOT and FMCSA do exist because of carriers that do that. Regulations are always a way for large corporation to squash the small guy. If you run straight legal, ELOGS should mean nothing to you.

I've seen first hand what bad carriers do to an area of freight. I see it every week when I roll into pick loads from a local toll steel processor. I'm tired of carriers who don't care, drivers who don't care, shippers and receivers who don't care. You may take pride in your truck, work, and life I don't know. But I've see a lot who do not, and I'm tired of it.

nobody is advocating running 20-24 hours. they are advocating flexibility according to what is happening around them and their own internal clock.

I'm with you! I only need 2 hours of sleep a day, I can drive 22 hours straight if I could hold enough fuel.
And let's get rid of the alcohol and drug tests, I drive better after a pint of vodka and a line.
