When you guys bought a home, did you not take all of your deductions to get your income higher? So, that you can could get approved for more of a house.

My lender added depreciation back in, myself, I claimed fewer days out on the road for a couple years before I bought the house.

The sad thing is in the 70's none of us pulling tankers would think of taking a load for $2/mi. I still have all my records and my average was $2.26/mi for all miles travelled. We would run from NJ to out west and come back empty 95% of the time. There was no such thing as a backhaul rate. A load going a couple miles paid $700 and detention was $100/hr. I was content to work 4 months a year and gross 126K average. Thats the only part of "old school" that I miss. Now we act as if getting $2/mi is the holy grail of owner operatorship.CJndaTruck, Vinny aldo and mtoo Thank this. -
Many have said that rates are worse than 30-40 years ago. Your example is a great one. In my opinion we just have to many trucking companies now. Well we have Megas. If I owned 5000 trucks I could afford to make $50 a day off each truck. When you own 1 truck and need to make $500 or so a day...... we see who has the advantage.
