Well as I suspected, the recent spate of activity around the HH section is in the process of claiming another valuable member of our community.
@DarkhorseEnterprises this is not a reflection on you or your question here. I support your reaching out in a positive tone for the kind of information available from the members here.
It is unfortunate that the experience base to draw from is being undercut based on tone and directness of responses.
Part of the value of the interchange of ideas is the questioning of ones knowledge.
I apparently have been a member here for going on 7 years and have seen this happen time and again.
I am not sure why being light hearted and jovial is as important as it here on the site. A slightly thick skin is a critical component when doing job, dealing with other drivers, DOT and the public.
So if we can't protect our community- even if it is a subset of the larger TTR community- I feel worse for it.
As I said in the where is everyone thread, 2017 sucks and it looks like it is getting worse.

Something else to consider with higher gear ratios. A bigger ratio means the gears are meshing or sliding against each other for a longer period of time. This translates into heat. Big ratio rearends naturally run warmer oil temperatures. There are two ways to combat that, and the first one allows you to add the second one. If you don't take this extra option, you have no options.
1)make sure you have pump model diffs. This means the oil is circulated via an actual pump driven by the gears as opposed to gear splashing the oil around the diff. This is particularly a component life extender as you get heavier. Heavier and heavier workload means that you climb hills slower and the gears may not splash sufficient lube around!
2)with pump model rearends you can remove the plugs and route the rearend oil via hoses to external coolers. The guys pulling >350,000bs in Oz use 4.56 or 4.89 rears and external coolers to maintain temps.Last edited: Jan 28, 2017

Not yet but double secret probation usually ends the deal.
Hopefully things will blow over and we can go back to ragging on each other like normal.
Now if I could find a load - even to Ohio at this point - I would be happy. -
So here and NOW, I ask you...no, BEG of you...ANY of you, if I seem to have a fundamentally flawed logic about some issue...or just simply incorrect "facts," PLEASE set me straight. I've been out here 11 years. But I'm still a rookie - especially in the world of anything OSOW. I KNOW I don't know it all. In the world of OSOW, I feel I know the first page...of the first book...in a LIBRARY of info. So again, anyone with knowledge of the subject - please feel free to enlighten me - ad nauseam if you like. It will be much appreciated.
I say this because, as you say @Rontonio , one would do well to have a thick skin in this...and I believe I do. I wish more people did. Constructive criticism is a priceless and invaluable tool in a world where mistakes made means people could die, or at best, catastrophic damage to property and severe injury. And all because a driver couldn't "take it" without getting their feelings hurt. I'll take hurt feelings over an epitaph any day. I'll take a little criticism over the knowledge that someone else was severely injured or killed because of something I did or DIDN'T DO...CORRECTLY. 6 days a week and twice on Sundays.
And I feel strongly that anyone who can't say that, should have their participation award shredded and burned...and their CDL too - this industry has a huge shortage of drivers. But drivers like that, are drivers we would be better off WITHOUT.
Thank you!1951 ford, Oxbow, skootertrashr6 and 3 others Thank this. -
Well, these were my choices...
I chose option 2 for the engine for reasons of transmission availability.DarkhorseEnterprises Thanks this. -
I hear you guys on the 3.36s.. they were free.. also the truck pulls up to but no heavier than 100k on 7 axles.. 3 truck 4 trailer.. the freightliner is only a 3 so it's weight restricted and pulls 105.5 in the nw regularly. As for detriot not pulling I'll call bs. the freightshaker pulls just fine at 550hp 13spd and 2.93s.. yea I'm not the fastest up or down but it's never failed me.. the kw is the other axle I need and I pull oversized for a friend a couple time a year.. when the kw's done he promised more work... but my regular work will be 105.5 on a 53' maxi.. the low boy is his and only set to be a 5 axle without tractor.

That's the truck. With that wheelbase. The only people in the lower 48 I've seen pulling HH with monster wheelbase are the Bennett 2+3+2 guys. But they have those big house sleepers too. I prefer a flattop. What do I need a big sleeper for? The only things I do in a truck is drive and sleep.Last edited: Jan 28, 2017

Let's talk trannies...
Is there any real difference between the 1850 and 2250 eaton 18..? -
I had two 1850s in this truck. One was the 18913A and the other was the 18918A (which grenaded on me under a superload). I replaced it with the 22918B and a custom Lipe.
A word of caution, the 22918B is not common in some areas. The common HH transmission is the 20918. I went with the bigger transmission because I have 2x the power I had when stock.DarkhorseEnterprises, Dye Guardian and Ruthless Thank this.
