I took the aftermarket antenna mount for the doors drilled holes in it to match the screws for the step mirror on the door. I am using 18' coax. a road ranger antenna and that mount drilled to match the bolts and my swr are finally down to 1.3 a crossed the board 1,20,40 that is the only successful solution I found to my 2016 freightliner Cascadia day cab. Upon testing a friend could hear me clearly at 16 miles. I was not able to hear him but I am clearly putting out better than he since he didn't tune anything on his tractor.

If anything it should be other way around....I wonder if you have plastic door bushings affecting that..

I've used this set up on multiple Cascadias from 2006 (I think) and up. It has always worked well for me. Usually the SWR is worse with the door open???? We've went to KW T680s now, I don't have an answer for them. This is my last year anyway so I'll probably just use the factory system. It works better than the Cascadia factory system at least.

I don't know what I could add to what I've already posted, with pictures, but I'm always willing to give my "two cents". I didn't do any bonding due to the fact I slip seated every week, but I believe that is the majority of the answer on these trucks. I drove enough different ones to figure out some of them have worse ground issues than others.
EDIT: Oh yeah, be sure and remove the factory CB antenna that is on the same side as your own antenna. It do make a difference!

I'll hang around on here, but Lord willing, I'm done by the end of the year. (My back may even hasten that retirement date up just a little.)

Something I've always known about these trucks since day one... they just don't build them like they used too ...
